Take it outside!
« on: March 01, 2018, 08:28:18 PM »
Seeing Wheel of Fortune a week or two ago film episodes outdoors at Disney, got me to thinking.  How many game shows filmed episodes outdoors? (Not including series entirely filmed outdoors, i.e. sport-themed competitions.) Primarily studio based series.  First thing that came to my mind was Davidson Hollywood Squares that had a series of episodes beach-side. Others?

1960s You Don't Say! (in Hollywood, FL, same as Davidson Squares.)
Eric Smallman; "...I don't think God ever forgave me for Phyllis Newman..." - "Jimmy Carter" (Dan Aykroyd), SNL, 1976

They sure did. I think I enjoyed the intro more than anything else.....Showing a montage of the "Southern Fried Host" enjoying himself around Opryland. RIP Opryland, and Ray Combs.

In the same vein as Remote Control, I think the short-lived "Idiot Savants" did at least one episode from MTV's Spring Break set.

They loved going outside - they also recorded at Disney World in Orlando and in Central Park.

Exactly what I was thinking - and if Bob Eubanks' book is to be believed, a good argument for keeping game shows in the studio.

The OP wanted shows that weren't always done outdoors, otherwise you'd have Treasure Isle and the myriad of kids game shows that taped outdoors
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

I was in the audience for the Barbara Mandrell vs The Statler Bros taping at Opryland.  The intros were cool, but I missed having the big flippy board.

There were times when Truth or Consequences taped in outdoor settings during the 60s, after they first went into syndication.

Win Ben Stein's Money also had special episodes done outdoors.

Never knew these were done! I worked out there (at the radio stations) from ’96 to ’98, and again from 2000 to ’03. In fact, my picture at left was taken in the FM studio in the park.  Yup, I miss Opryland. The mall never did it for me.
