30 Years Ago Today...
« on: July 04, 2018, 09:50:21 PM »
After having left network TV (and syndication) in 1985, Family Feud returned to network TV as a replacement for the $25,000 Pyramid (which was bought back in the spring after Blackout was canceled).

The syndicated version - which, like the network version, was hosted by Ray Combs - would air later that year. Combs would be replaced by Richard Dawson for the syndie show's final season.

Of course, Feud wuuld return in 1999 and is still going strong today with Steve Harvey in syndicated, with a summer celebrity version to boot on ABC.

And who almost got the Feud hosting gig? Joe Namath; after several run-throughs, Mark Goodson had a very bad feeling about Namath and thought Ray Combs was more suitable.

Was he repeating the vowels to himself backstage?

It would have given a whole new dimension to wanting to kiss the female contestants.
