What's the difference between Family Feud Challenge and New Family Feud?  Did they just change names at some point?  Where there different rules?  This is going to determine what I name the revamed Flash game I'm working on.

"Family Feud Challenge"--One-hour network show, with two families playing the first half-hour to meet the champs in the second half-hour.

"New Family Feud"--Half-hour syndicated show, with returning champions.

Basically, that's the difference.  They both aired at the same time and MGP and A-A changed the title to "New Feud" to emphasize the addition of Bullseye (and perhaps because of the new syndicator).

I'm a bit confused since Norfolk never aired the Feud Challenge, just syndie Feud (as of 1992).

Was there a Bullseye round played in both halves of the show, and were there two Fast Money games, one per half, or was the first half of the show played to an extended dollar figure?

Both halves were exactly the same in rules--same Bullseye round, same 300-point games, same Fast Money.  "Challenge" also had a second full opening ("let's meet the Smith family...") for the second half-hour for those stations that didn't carry the entire hour.  Don't recall if Combs announced the winnings for the challengers in the second half at the top of the show.

To clarify, "Challenge" was an hour show, but CBS affils could just run the last half-hour only if they wished.  Don't know if there were network spots in the first half-hour or not or if they were all local spots then.

Because of the Bullseye round, they changed the scoring to one single round, one double round, and two triple rounds. So, it was common to win after the third round, as opposed to the previous version of Combs Feud, where they needed 4 or 5 rounds.

Also, Ray had some difficulty with the timing. By the fourth round, he's literally rushing like crazy, reminding the families that they MUST move quickly.
Oddly enough, they were willing to make some changes to allow Richard Dawson to move the game at his own pace when he returned. Richard had time to give a short monologue and personally greet each family member, where Ray didn't have that luxury.

Did the syndie version before the Bullseye round was introduced, have returning champs?

Also, did they still do monthly tournaments once the Bullseye round was introduced?

Yes...just like the daytime version, champs were allowed to stay on for a maximum of 5 shows.

And IIRC, the first half Bullseye values were halved, meaning they started with 2500, working on questions worth 500/1000/1500/2000 and 2500?

Nope. THe SYndie Feud stopped doing the TofC's in 1990 or 1991 as I recall, but the daytime Feud continued doing the Monthly tournament through mid-1992, when the show expanded to an hour on CBS.

One other difference from the 1988-92 Feud to the 1992-95 Bullseye era Feuds: No more five match limit for families, families could now stay until defeated.

And they were used on BOTH versions before being doubled?

And per Travis's FF page, when the Bullseye format came around, so did the "add the value of the stolen answer to the bank" rule.

I think what he's saying is that the $500/1000/1500/2000/2500 was only on the first half of the Feud Challenge.

The syndie version and second half of the Challenge used $1000/2000/3000/4000/5000 and the families started with a minimum $5000 bank.

Also at that time, they discontinued converting maingame points to dollars.

And you mentioned that was a mistake that Chris Lambert made on his FF page, when he mentioned that the "points to cash" thing was discontinued when the 1999 version began, right?

In New Family Feud, a family who stole the bank was awarded both the points in the bank and the points from the answer they guessed.  Same as the Family Feud Challenge?

I just put out FFPS 3.1 a few minutes ago and I'm ready to start on the next game.  :-)  Thanks for the help.

When will this be up on your site? I just tried going to it and downloaded and it said it was still the 3.0 version.
