Daytime Emmy predictions
« on: February 05, 2004, 06:41:34 PM »
With the nominations for this year's Daytime Emmy Awards coming up probably next month, here's who I predict will be nominated in the major game show categories:

OUTSTANDING GAME SHOW:
Family Feud (SYN)
Jeopardy! (SYN)
Lingo (GSN)
Pyramid 2004 (SYN)
Whammy! The All-New Press Your Luck (GSN)

OUTSTANDING GAME SHOW HOST:
Tom Bergeron (Hollywood Squares)
Todd Newton (Whammy)
Donny Osmond (Pyramid 2004)
Alex Trebek (Jeopardy!)
Chuck Woolery (Lingo)

Now, in connection with another thread, which game show folk do you think should've gotten this year's 'Lifetime Acheivement Award?' (EXCLUDING BILL CULLEN AND ARLENE FRANCIS!!!!!) My choice is still the Winkster!

Cordially,
Tammy Warner--the 'Kit Dougherty of the Big Board!'

In Loving Memory: Dolores "Roxanne" Rosedale (1929-2024) & Peter Marshall (1926-2024)

Would winning a Daytime Emmy be enough to keep either Pyramid or H2 on the air? Just curious.

I'm afraid not, though Squares should get the Emmy this year, and perhaps Bergeron for host as well. Pyramid is as about as deserving to win the Emmy as WOF is, though Donny did get nominated this year. I suspect Barker will take the Emmy this year given he turned 80 and they celebrate 6000 daytime shows this season

Winning an Emmy these days doesn't carry as much as much weight as it used to, especially in syndication. However, $10,000 Pyramid winning an Emmy in 1974 supposedly convinced ABC to give Pyramid another shot on their network, and the rest is history..........

May I correct you on that. It was the ABC version of Password that won the Outstanding Game Show Emmy in 1974. The $20,000 Pyramid (as the show would be later known) would get its first Emmy in that category two years later.

Mea culpa on that....I could've sworn I read that Pyramid won the Emmy that year, maybe it was nominated? Maybe I'm an idiot? I report, you decide.......;)

Just out of curiousity, why should/will Whammy! be nominated?

A 3-word answer doesn't wash well with me.  Try again, this time with some explination as to why "it deserves it".

Is "Survivor" and the like still lumped in with the game shows?  Does just being on the air make a show outstanding?
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Personally I feel it's a well-produced show; Fonz has done extremely well without having game show experience, and the show still has some staffers from the Marshall era that know how to run the show. And although it has no bearing on a nomination, I feel that the producers have tried to add a little "old-school" game show feel to it, with the way the show is run this season, and I don't mean the 2/3 rule.

Put it like this, if you had to choose, would you rather see H2 or Wheel get nominated?
"They're both Norman Jewison movies, Troy, but we did think of one Jew more famous than Tevye."

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

"Survivor"'s prime time and now has the "reality/competition" category in the prime time Emmys.

And AFAIK, GSN is very close but is still not in one-half of U.S. TV homes (which I believe is either 56 or 57 million homes), which remains the major requirement for cable and syndicated programs.

Oh, I know "Survivor" is prime time, but so is "Wheel of Fortune" in many markets, yet it is eligible for the daytime awards.
