Spanish game show canceled ... by court order?
« on: October 03, 2019, 02:36:05 PM »
In what could be a television first, a long-running Spanish game show was canceled by the order of a judge …

The case concerns the long-running series "Paspalabra" (a recent version that aired on Britain's ITV was called "Alphabetical", a dispute over the rights to the program and whether ITV (which owns the original rights to the show) should be paid for broadcasting rights. Telecinco, which airs "Paspalabra," along with Spanish communications group Medianet, alleged they created "Paspalabra" and didn't owe ITV squat, and also asked the judge to force ITV to pay them back previous broadcasting rights payments.

But the judge ruled in favor of ITV, which requested that the show be yanked off the air and that the Spanish broadcasters pay them around 15 million euros.
