As 2019 starts to wind down, it's time once again to run through what were the biggest game and reality-competition show highlights of the year.
Of course, we all know who holds two of them, but there were others that come to mind:
The reboots of Press Your Luck and Card Sharks with Elizabeth Banks and Joel McHale respectively
Split Second (1986) and -- after gathering 35 years of dust in Fremantle's vaults -- Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour added to the Buzzr lineup
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (U.S.) ending after 20 years
The return of Supermarket Sweep U.K. on ITV (while Leslie Jones is tapped to do the new stateside version sometime in 2020)
"Dancing With The Stars" becoming "The Sean Spicer Show" for a good part of the season
Wheel of Fortune becomes "Vanna Takes The Wheel" while Pat Sajak underwent emergency surgery
The passings of Charles Van Doren, Robert "Bob-O" Essig, Rudy Boesch (Survivor Season 1 contestant), Rip Taylor, Phyllis Newman, and our own David Downs
Michael Stouber winning $262,743 (including $202,000 in Million Dollar Plinko) during Big Money Week, making him the biggest winner in daytime TPIR history...and also shattering Mort Kamins' network daytime winnings record of $249,982 that stood for 36 years!!!
Any others I missed?
