I so rarely would ever suggest "tampering" with results...but...

Tonight's audience match was _______ SHORE...

Does ANYONE really believe "Sidney" would EVER get a measurable response?

The NBC cross-promotion in this version just gets creepy sometimes...

Wow, really?? Considering that the last telecast of “Love, Sidney” was May of ‘83, I’d say they’re definitely reaching on that one..

Given that Mark wouldn't allow jokes to be written around the answers for the celebs because he didn't like how it'd look, I doubt that he'd rig the Super Match because NBC told him to.

My best hunch is that, while "Love, Sidney" was a flop, it's a famous flop because it starred a very famous man and somebodys in an audience of 200(?)* remembered that flop and the main character on it. As we've seen just this week, the audience is either not that bright or not shown the Super Match spelling when being polled. Earlier this week the Super Match was "AUDREY (blank)" and the $250 response was "MURPHEY." So, they not only confused Audie with Audrey, but they couldn't even spell Murphy right.

*How many seats does that studio have? They've been showing the audience more on camera lately, but I can't tell.
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

Studio 3

The sections that came down to the stage floor were added when Leno moved in.

My understanding is neither MGHS or Classic Concentration would have fit in this studio after the seats were added

Are we sure this is the right studio? The audience of MGHSH definitely had more than five rows of seats. And I'm pretty sure the front of the audience was on the floor.

My source was

I agree it doesn't look like 3, or like 1 that Carson was using.  I haven't been able to find a floorplan with seating or a panorama for 2 or 4.  5 wouldn't have been big enough.  It's always possible they put some floor seating in, but even then there wouldn't have been the amount of depth that audience shot gave.

I'd have to think that MGHSH may have been hopped around studios a bit. I know "Super Password" was; they even did shows in studio 1 (with that they were in "Johnny Carson's studio" that day).

"It's Anybody's Guess" is listed in the EOAG document as having been in studio 3. The audience looks much larger:

Back then, Studio 1 was the only one of NBC Burbank's "big 4" studios with permanent seating. Those seats were at at a rather steep angle; if any show that taped in there ever showed the audience, you'd know.

EDIT: Found on the YouTube. Upon seeing the stage left/audience right edge, I want to say it *is* studio 3.

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

I'll have to re-watch, but did Gene ask "Who is Sidney Shore?" (Sometimes I'll fast forward thru Super Match)
As a kid, I enjoyed watching Love, Sidney. The theme music was cute, and I just thought it was funny at the time. I don't think it had the legs to be a long running series... the kid wouldn't be quite so funny being a teenager. I think a while back, I posted video of bloopers from Love, Sidney. Tony Randall had a reputation for hating children, but these outtakes show otherwise, as he was quite playful and endearing to this little girl.

Pamelyn Ferdin posted nice things about Tony Randall on her Facebook page - she said he treated her like his daughter and helped teach her how to project her voice.

Ferdin left her recurring role on The Odd Couple for a regular role on The Paul Lynde Show: "Turned out I would have much preferred to only appear once in awhile on The Odd Couple rather than play in every episode of The Paul Lynde Show. Paul Lynde could be wildly funny, but didn't like kids much and was very serious. He also had a short temper, so it wasn't a fun show for me to work on."

Penny Marshall said in her book (which is where I read about Randall's supposed dislike for children) that she was nervous about bringing her daughter Tracy Reiner, who was a little girl at the time to The Odd Couple. Tracy had a small role playing the piano for Blanche and Oscar's wedding in a flashback (which was just an ascending and descending 5 note scale). She too said that Tony was very nice to Tracy. Rob Reiner adopted Tracy when he and Penny married, as Tracy was from a previous relationship.

Peter Marshall would also comment on Paul's dislike for children, saying he disliked doing Storybook Squares not just because of the kids, but also he wasn't too keen on getting into elaborate costumes.

Maybe if it was in syndication or if Peter Marshall was HS host then maybe MGHSH would have lasted longer
