I think the logic was that Mary was pretty lucky to beat such a tough opponent by such a small amount. Not saying Mary was a bad player by any means, but had Crystal got that Grenada question right, Crystal would have won the day.
Or if Crystal hadn't bought the third Instant Bargain, she'd have gotten the win.
Or if Crystal had hit either of the remaining Money Cards.

I know that good luck comes in many forms, and it's always nice to see more fresh Sale, but this paled in comparison to some of the other stuff in the marathon.

They did actually say in promos that it wasn't necessarily good luck in every featured episode, right? Hence why Sale got Crystal instead of, say, Michael Friedman whose coronation was spoiled by the buzzsaw that was Alice Conkright. Though that coulda been a good one to use, no?
