GSN schedule changes 5/11
« on: April 28, 2020, 07:09:37 PM »
According to the GSN site, the 90-minute Match Game block will be replaced by back-to-back episodes of Whammy! (8-9:00am) and the Mike Richards-hosted Pyramid (9-9:30am) MG will still be in its 1-2:00pm slot.

Cordially,
Tammy
In Loving Memory: Dolores "Roxanne" Rosedale (1929-2024), Peter Marshall (1926-2024), & Chuck Woolery (1941-2024)

Hmmm....this is disappointing, but not surprising.  I guess that means GSN is really ridding themselves of any classics at all (other than their own creations).  How long have they been running this same group of Match Game episodes anyway - seems like years.  Probably the 1-2 block will disappear eventually too.

We unfortunately don't get BUZZR on our cable.  If I could choose between the two, I'd rather have BUZZR right now than GSN.

With Roku, Pluto, etc. there's probably a way you can pretty easily get it on your TV by now.

Whammy! is 18 years old at this point, which is almost enough to be a classic in its own right.

As for not airing hours of Match Game every day, I guess GSN realizes they don't need to be airing the same content that they've had for the last 25 years now that BUZZR has that niche covered.

There are probably multiple factors driving this. I think Match Game is the only thing that's from the 20th century that GSN airs right now.
It's also one of only four(?) shows that aren't GSN originals (Deal or No Deal, Cash Cab, and Feud being the others) so I'm guessing there's interest in keeping more of the programming in-house. Also, with Press Your Luck and Pyramid returning to the ABC schedule, having the Great Valu versions of those shows on GSN's schedule lines up with our perception of their programming ethos.
This signature is currently under construction.

Honest question - what costs more for GSN to air: old PYL or Whammy? Match Game or America Says?

I imagine these decisions are based entirely on costs. If Match Game and America Says are getting a similar audience, and America Says is cheaper, decision made...right?

Fortunately, I imagine BUZZR isn't under as tight a constraint, since the ratings aren't as closely watched.

That and BUZZR doesn't have the option to repeat their past original programming, whether they'd want to or not.
