The Price is Right: Lost in the Translation (A Quiz)
« on: September 10, 2021, 09:35:43 PM »
The current version of this venerable guessing game has had version air in forty four other countries and often the themes assigned to the pricing quizzes don’t make the leap across the pond. I’ll name the pricing event and the country and you tell me what it is known as here in the good old U S of A.

Take several guesses and score based on which guess (if any) is correct. I have listed them in order of difficulty.

In the Italian version of TPIR this game is called “Salvadanio” which means “Piggy Bank.” –
     Any Number

Tuning in to Indonesian TPIR you watch a contestant play “Zarasambhalke” which means “Tread Carefully.” –        Cliff Hanger

When not being rude to American tourists the French can watch someone win at “La Main dans la Sac,” “The Hand in the Bag” -        Three Strikes

For your viewing pleasure in Portugal they are playing “Um De Dois, ” that’s “One of Two” to you and me. –              Switch?

The fictional Juan Valdez could watch very real Columbians undergo “El Mercadito” which translates as “The Little Supermarket.” –         Grand Game

At least in the Netherlands, where they have the decency to speak English, Carlo Boszhard hosts Carlo’s Casino. –         Dice Game

So, how did you do?

Got the first three, but thought the last ones were Double Prices, Grocery Game, and Card Game, respectively.

/The length of the spoilers should have tipped me off.

Okay, I made the spoiler spaces bigger to disguise the length of the titles.

Additional Fun Fact: One would think that since Plinko is a made up name it would be universal. Not so. In Norway, where skiing is popular it's called Slalom           .
