Sorry if I'm missing a thread to which I should be adding this.

Fox's "Great American Celebrity Spelling Bee" was a very silly hour's worth of semi-entertainment.

Anybody else see it?  Thoughts?  Percentage of words you missed?

zero percent missed. But they needed an hour to eliminate ONE team?

Hurley did an excellent job as host, and that was the highlight.
This isn't a plug, but you can ask me about my book.

 Zero, huh?  You word-stud.

I'm slipping; I missed a few here and there.

You're right; Hurley was wonderful.  The right blend of professorial seriousness and star-chop-busting snide humor.  I'd love to see him get a new show.

*More* than an hour--the show ran over the top of the hour and my tape stopped right on what I guess was the last word (when did the first commercial network National Geographic special in years start?).

But O'Hurley was far and away the best thing about the show.  If and when Trebek ever leaves "J!", O'Hurley would be my choice to replace him--he's got a little Art Fleming in him, and that's not a bad thing.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

I really have no desire to watch a bunch of D-list "stars", who probably failed 3rd grade spelling in a spelling bee.

Why anyone thought this would be good entertai--oh wait; its on FOX.

And if I misspelt anything in this post; please accept my apologies. :)

OK, OK, we get the pitcher. :-D

BTW, surprised no one noted that one of the contestants was TTTT '00 regular Meschach Taylor, which kinda provided a reunion for O'Hurley, I suppose. :-)

Agreement here that O'Hurley was the right host. I could pretty well tell in advance that they needed someone who could come off with the right aloofness and sense of "I would have known this even without the answer right in front of me," and even a bit of smarm, but couldn't figure out fit the bill, and O'Hurley did it well.
