I lost my phone game virginity!  =D  I didn't turn 18 until after the phone game stopped before, so this was pretty exciting for me.

I bombed on Q2:

Put these Best New Artist Grammy winners in order, starting with the earliest:

1) Shelby Lynn
2) Lauryn Hill
3) Hootie & the Blowfish
4) Mariah Carey

I panicked and hit 3412 and got buzzed.  On second thought, I think it may be 1342.  Do the 10 seconds seem like forever, or does it feel like you have to answer immediately?  I could barely write down choices at the rate the guy was speaking!

Got knocked out on Q2 tonight:

Starting with the earliest, place these fictional detectives in the order they first appeared in print:

1. Sam Spade
2. Insp. Chauver
3. Sherlock Holmes
4. Kinizie something....

I tried "3412" and was wrong.

No clue.

Hey all:

Jeez, compared to what my partner got last night, I got relatively easy questions today, and got them all.  (And if *I* am saying they're easy, then they're EASY). LOL.  Hardest one that I almost screwed up was they give you something like:

14 pennis and 4 nickels; 1 quarter and 2 pennies, 3 dimes and one nickel, and 1 quarter and one nickel.  Put them in order starting with the least amount.  Doesn't look hard, but when you're trying to add and listen to what the guy is saying next AND trying to get them all in, in 10 secs...*whew*.  I thought I took too much time..BTW, my examples aren't exactly what he said, but something like it.

I picked the 23rd tape date...my partner picked 21, so I wanted to be far enough away from him so if he got carried over I could be his PAF.  Hopefully, if either of us get called, HE will, since he's brilliant, and I only know sports, politics, and Oscar trivia.  LOL.  Good luck to all.  (and remember, I bombed on the 1st damn question last night, so it can be done!).

Well, I guess it's safe to say you won't see me on THAT show anytime soon.  No wonder there's $10 million up for grabs here.  If the phone game really is THAT hard, imagine what the difficulty level will be on the show itself.  Oh well, Round 3 tonight Invisioners!

I'll probably get flamed for even posting this topic in the first place because I have no clue what makes a "good" topic.  Yikes!

Once again, I tanked on Question 2. You had to put the following in birthdate order: Jon Stewart, Jimmy Stewart, Patrick Stewart, and Rod Stewart. I think I got Patrick and Rod mixed up. Patrick is in his 60's and Rod is just shy of 60, which I had totally forgotten about when I played the game.

I'm glad to see that everyone else is struggling with these questions. I guess I'll probably wind up reapplying for Meredith's show, since they never called me since I passed the written test two seasons ago.

#2 was probably Inspector Javert, from Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.  No idea what #4 might be.

Must be Kinsey Milhone, detective in Sue Grafton's alphabet series ("A is for Alibi", etc.).  Just looked up - Les Mis was 1862, first Sherlock Holmes was 1867, so presumably 2-3-1-4

That'd be Kinsey Millhone, from Sue Grafton's "alphabet" series of mysteries (A is for Alibi, B is for "Boy, is this a great gimmick or what!", C is for "Can I really keep this up all the way to Z?" etc.)

Casting no aspersions, I tanked on last night's Q2, too:

Put these books in order of their first publication, starting with the earliest:

1. Devil in a Blue Dress
2. The Satanic Verses
3. Paradise Lost
4. The Divine Comedy

Though I'd never heard of Devil, I got it in the right place; I mixed up 3 and 4.  Ah, well.

BTW, do any of the previous Hot Seaters (or actually, anyone who made it to NYC) know how they handle the SS# thing.  When you call the phone line, it says you have to produce proof of Social Security Number BEFORE being allowed to play the game (as oppsed to TPiR, which lets you produce it I think 30 days after..).   I have my card, but my partner doesn't.  He does, however, have his insurance papers which have his SS# listed, and a few various and sundry papers with it also.

Do you have to get the actual SS# card if they give him the eligibility call, or will this do for now?

I don't see the questions as being any harder as they were 32 months ago(the last time the phone game was used to find contestants for the show was June 2001). I recall hard third questions and even hard second questions being asked and/or reported about in Usenet back then. We just have to get back in to the rhythm of calling and pushing those buttons, as it's been 32 months.

It's good to know we're not the only ones struggling with this; last night Jimmy Kimmel tried the phone game out on his show, and also bombed on the first question. Unfortunately, I can't remember the question to save my life, IIRC, it involved putting a phrase in the correct order, he dialed 4-3-2-1, and I think you know what happened next. :-)

Second question. Put playing cards in order of value in blackjack, from high to low (ace was in the choices). Something anyone who's watched "Gambit" would know. I press the on-off buttons above the numbers on my cordless phone keypad instead of the numbers. I screw myself. Wonderful.

If that had been me, you can bet I'd be replacing my phone right now. :-)

If I remember correctly from the earlier phone games, the choices were "always" presented so that 1-2-3-4 (or even 4-3-2-1? -- my memory is foggy on this point) was never the correct answer.

Along the same lines, on the actual show, only one time were the Fastest Finger questions put in order so the correct answer was A-B-C-D, and that was early in the run.  I think there may have been one other time where the correct answer was D-C-B-A.

*But* I redeemed myself last night by qualifying for the Wednesday tape date.  The questions:

1.  Famous people by year of birth, from Pontius Pilate to Mandy Moore.

2.  A different group of Best New Artist Grammy winners, with Christina Aguilera being the most recent (there seems to be a pop tart theme in this bunch).

3.  The magazine question.

4.  Opera houses from the U.S. east (The Met, La Scala, Vienna Opera House, Sydney Opera House).

5.  Branded beverages in order introduced on market--Coca-Cola, Tab, Snapple and Sanka.  I seemed to remember that Sanka was introduced *before* Coke and pressed 4-1-2-3.

I'm now hoping to get the call Monday morning!
