Second question. Put playing cards in order of value in blackjack, from high to low (ace was in the choices). Something anyone who's watched "Gambit" would know. I press the on-off buttons above the numbers on my cordless phone keypad instead of the numbers. I screw myself. Wonderful.

If that had been me, you can bet I'd be replacing my phone right now. :-)
*But* I redeemed myself last night by qualifying for the Wednesday tape date.  The questions:

1.  Famous people by year of birth, from Pontius Pilate to Mandy Moore.

2.  A different group of Best New Artist Grammy winners, with Christina Aguilera being the most recent (there seems to be a pop tart theme in this bunch).

3.  The magazine question.

4.  Opera houses from the U.S. east (The Met, La Scala, Vienna Opera House, Sydney Opera House).

5.  Branded beverages in order introduced on market--Coca-Cola, Tab, Snapple and Sanka.  I seemed to remember that Sanka was introduced *before* Coke and pressed 4-1-2-3.

I'm now hoping to get the call Monday morning!
Congratulations and good luck!

Darn these literature questions!!  (And these were my bane during the first run too!!)

Bombed on the third Monday night -- with ordering four books that I only knew two of in the order of publication.

And then got the Robby Roseman Memorial Llama by getting this first question wrong ast night:

Put the following four words in order to form the title of a 1948 William Faulkner novel?

(Note:  You may begin your jokes here...)

1) In
2) Intruder
3) Dust
4) The

I said 2-1-4-3, IIRC...

Let's just say that, with a number of more literature questions, I won't be much competition for an entry this season...

That blackjack question is awfully double-answerable if ace IS one of the choices.

That can either be high or low at the discretion of the player.

My luck was a little better.  Got all 5 last night on my second try.  The paraphrased questions and order of answers went something like this...

1) Parts of the Concorde in order from front to back of the plane...landing gear, cockpit, nose, rudder

2) Literary characters in order of their introduction starting w/ earliest....Huck Finn, Hamlet, Cujo, Holden Caufield

3) Historical events in order starting w/ the earliest...Czarism ends in Russia, UN is formed, Soviet Union dissolves, NATO is formed

4) Foods in order of their introduction starting w/ the most recent...Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey's Chocolate Bars, Entenmann's Fat Free Cake, Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream

5) Figures that appear in Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start The Fire" from beginning of the song to end...Davy Crockett, Elvis Presley, Disneyland, Peter Pan

I was close to being stumped on the Billy Joel question until I remembered all four were mentioned in the same line of that song..."Davy Crockett, Peter Pan, Elvis Presley, Disneyland".  I saw him live in Nashville a few years ago, and he did that song with the disclaimer that he claimed no responsibility if he flubbed the words.  It wasn't any easier putting those words in order on a keypad.

I chose the 25th for the tape date.  Wish me luck!!

Thank you, Mr. Vegas. You and GSG2K should hit the tables.

If you'd READ the thread, you'd know that the wording of the question was such that it asked to rank based on their MAXIMUM POSSIBLE VALUES, which makes the question very straighforward.

2143 was the correct order, so you pushed something else if you say you were called wrong.

Well, tonight I made it to Q.3.

Place these states in order of population (as of 2001), starting with the highest.

1) Montana
2) Missouri
3) Hawaii
4) Iowa

I actually looked at 2002 figures, and judging by that, I cannot believe how horribly off I was. I put 1-2-4-3, and according to '02 stats, it would be 2-4-3-1.  1) 910K 2) 5.6 mil 3) 1.2 mil 4) 2.9 mil  I never would've guessed that, esp. in the case of Montana and Hawaii.

That's what I get for underestimating. :-P

I think I may have gotten a 1-2-3-4 (or 4-3-2-1 if I misheard) question:

"Place the following elements in order according to when they were discovered, starting with the most recent:

(The parenthetical comments are mine, I looked up the dates after the fact on a chemical wiki, so if they're wrong, feel free to let me know)

1) Einsteinium (1952)
2) Radium (1898)
3) Hydrogen (1766)
4) Silver (Unknown)

I SWEAR I got 'em in that order. I was stupid and flipped the last two, thinking silver wasn't isolated as an element until after hydrogen, and that there couldn't POSSIBLY be a 1-2-3-4 out there.

So, be warned, it looks like there might be...

I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately threw in a 1-2-3-4 question, just to throw people off...almost make folks think that 1-2-3-4 would be *way* too easy.

Kinda reminds me of a "Close to Home" comic I saw where some nerds were freaking out while taking the SAT, because every answer was "C." :-)

*sigh*

I guess they finally learned from their zodiac nightmare...if only I had figured it out properly...

Question #5:  Put these zodiac symbols in order starting from Capricorn:

1) Ram
2) Twins
3) Fish
4) Crab

Sadly, I went 1-2-4-3....forgetting that it was starting from Capricorn...thereby putting the "fish" at the wrong end.

Ironically, I'm a Pisces...

Crud.

Made it to Question 4 tonight, bombing out on the following

Put these Fashion Designers in order oldest first (not exact wording)  or so I thought I heard.

A  Tommy Hillfiger 1951
B Stella McCartney 1971
C Russell Simmons 1957
D Calvin Klein 1942

I guessed

D
A
C
B

and was wrong,  apparently I must have gotten the order mixed up.

I got the Blackjack question as # 3 though

Got to question 3 in my first attempt at the phone game. Blew it on this question:

Arrange the following movies in order from earlies to most recent:

A. Blues Brothers(1980)
B. Home Alone(1990)
C. Phone Booth(1998, 2002) - IMDB lists two movies called Phone Booth, but both were the most recent anyway, but I'm assuming they meant the most recent one in 2002, which I thought was good, but anyway...
D. Ferris Bueller's Day Off(1986)

-Years from IMDB.com

Now I'm definitely not a movie buff, but without looking it up(not that I would've had the time), I figured the answer should be ADBC, or 1-4-2-3, and I'm pretty sure that's what I pressed, unless I made a mistake in pressing the buttons. I'm pretty sure he said earliest to recent, but oh well, there's always tomorrow!

0 for 3.

Question 2#

Put these artists in order of their first Top 10 hits, starting with the earliest

1) Whitney Houston
2) Celine Dion
3) Barbara Striesand
4) Carole King

I take it Barbara had the hit first, not Carole. Eh.

Try again.

Nice to hear that a few of us have made it into the qualifying pool...

My downfall tonight was on question 3.... we had to put the following folks in their proper order: Cesar Chavez, Clara Barton, Jesse Jackson, and Mother Teresa.

I might have flipped Mother Teresa and Cesar Chavez.... or maybe I thought they'd said JULIO Cesar Chavez.
