New Sony-owned Spanish game show streaming channel
« on: May 05, 2021, 01:32:04 PM »
For our Spanish speakers, as well as those curious about such things... Sony has launched a new Spanish-language game & competition show channel, Sony Canal Competencias. The new channel, along with Game Show Central, are now available on XUMO and Vizio Smartcast, with more services likely coming soon.

More details here:

(Mods: I posted in this section due to the GSN ties, and the fact that this has sort of become the de facto streaming channel board. But if this fits better in a different section, please do your thing.)

The Sony Spanish-language channel has a live feed at https://www.xumo.tv/on-now/9999762/sony-canal-competencias

There is also an Escape Perfecto channel on Pluto TV, a different feed from the above one.  Channel 949 on Pluto TV or through the live feed:  https://pluto.tv/live-tv/sony-canal-escape-perfecto

(Seriously, if you've never seen Escape Perfecto, it's worth a watch regardless of how proficient you are in Spanish.  I would love to see this on English language TV.)

Just watched my first-ever ~90 minutes of Escape Perfecto on the Pluto channel, and I was unexpectedly hooked. Took a little bit of guesswork (and Wikipedia) to get the rules, but after that, most of the questions were so simple that the language barrier was trivial ... and rigorous quizzing isn't why you'd watch this show anyway. :)

Trying to pin down a reason why I liked it, the first thing I came up with is that games aren't fixed-length, so there doesn't have to be crazy editing to fill or cut time. The ones I watched didn't have carryover teams, so no idea if that's a factor.

But then I was hooked after a contestant survived a round with a baseball-worthy slide to just barely get one foot partway into the door just as it closed.

Also, venturing a bit off-topic, here's an episode of the Israeli original with English subtitles:
