Often, the last prize is a trip.  While a hotel is often mentioned; transportation is not.  Was transportation paid for by those "promotional consideration plugs" [as opposed to parting gifts], or was the transportation expense dumped on the contestants?

Not quite sure, I know during the Nick Studios era the trip useally was back to where you were taping, which I still think belongs with the Flokati rug as one of the dumbest prizes offered on a game show.

I vaguely remember Value rent a car being plugged heavily during the original runs (since updated over by Nick for reruns) I wouldnt be suprised however if they did have to get there themselves or just extend their existing stay in florida (in the case of the trip back to universal).

Anyone know, I'm not too sure myself. However I'm assuming not, especally since when Harvey gave the rundown the total of all 8 prizes useally was around $4-5000 not indicative of any kind of airfare being included.

I remember the first season of Family Double Dare on Nick, is that they use to give cars away and if a team made it through all 8 obstacles that would win somewhere over $12,000 to $16,000 worth of prizes.

During the final season if a family won all 8 prizes, the trip back to Universal did indeed include a Value Rent-a-Car.  My guess is that they either provided the cost of the rental, or the family had to pay for it from their own pockets.

On the Fox version they also made obstacle #7 the "Cash Obstacle."  If obstacle #7 was not completed, the value of it would increase by $500 for the next show, IIRC.

 I always thought it was random or something.  I know FDD was always self-contained.  And the cars on Fox FDD were more expensive (grand totals for big winners ranged from $22,000 to $28,000).  Primetime budget, you know.  It has to be when you consider Marc wears tuxes that are always covered with gak at the end of the show!

Well, if any family got past obstacle #7, they got it. (Just like any prize on the obstacle course.)

I know that I've seen at least one FFDD course win, so I believe the answer to your question would be yes.

Yeah, I think it was a random amount between $3K and $5K, since the eps were clearly aired out of sequence...anyone notice how often the display on Marc's podium changed?

 Going back through this, I can see I wasn't clear.  I didn't mean the ground transportation; rather I meant the airfare.

I'm not exactly sure, but I've always felt pretty sure that the cost of airfare was taken care of if/when that particular prize was won.
