One sound effect that always piqued my curiosity was the "winning bell" that would rapidly ring when a team reached 25 points, then near the end would "slow down" to a stop.
I had a theory: Was this bell manually operated by turning a crank for a wheel that had evenly-spaced hammers/clappers that would ring the bell as they passed by...then the operator would let go of the crank and the wheel and dings would slow to a dead stop?
Can anyone confirm or deny this particular bell set-up? With all the other electronic buzzers and bells they used, I was surprised that they would use such an "archaic" contraption, but that sure sounds like it.
