I watched People Puzzler for the first time in a while last night. Leah is definitely deserving of the nomination. She’s loosened up and isn’t as robotic as I thought she was in season one. Not saying she’s a shoo-in, but it’s not a crime nominating her IMO.

Daytime Emmys were Friday night. Jeopardy won Outstanding Game Show while Steve Harvey won Outstanding Game Show Host.

Because I was curious, I wanted to see if I could track down the episodes (based on the snippets we got) submitted for consideration in each of the two categories. Most were easy to figure out, Family Feud aside, but I think I have all 10 episodes.

So here are the airdates for these 10 nominees, along with clips:

Maybe they should have a separate telecast for game show awards, where there would be an appreciation of the genre.  The drama and ET people didn't seem too enthused.

I guess Scott was right in that Price was going to use a show that drove home the fact that it was the 50th season and the Halloween episode certainly did that with all the iconography, old cues and the newest limited-time game. Don't know if it was the best show they could've gone with, but it was certainly the one that made the point.

Still surprised that Jeopardy won. Davies did a really good job righting the ship and winning with a show only 2-3 months after the Richards fiasco should be absolutely commended.

I'll admit, I liked the clip Steve had sent in for consideration, but still a little disappointed he won. Leah was a breath of fresh air, but I'd understand if she was a bit unpolished. However, Wayne delivers a consistent performance more worthy of being awarded and in a more difficult environment.

Thank you for doing the work to identify all of these episodes. I'll add that for Outstanding Game Show Host, the nominees were allowed to submit a compilation reel that could include moments from multiple episodes, so long as those episodes all aired during 2021. So while the clips aired during the ceremony were part of the reel, other hosting moments from other episodes were also likely included and judged. (Sound Mixing/Editing and Technical Direction were restricted to a single episode; Lighting was allowed to submit a compilation reel.)

I'm sure it's worked in past years, but I don't like it when a show submits what is so blatantly an out-of-the-ordinary special themed episode to try to win for best series. If I were a voter unfamiliar with the series, my reaction would be, "Okay, but how good is your show when it isn't Halloween or a celebration of breast cancer awareness? Surely you're not doing this every day." I'm of the belief that a good submission depicts an everyday episode of the show in which everybody (including the contestants) has brought their A game and the stars have aligned for some entertaining wins.

One other thing. During the "In Memoriam" segment, I thought "Oops, they left out Betty White." Then they showed a clip of her accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award from 1999. A nice touch.

Leah was a breath of fresh air

If Wayne had won I would have been absolutely thrilled but in my whole heart I really feel like Leah should have won. She's almost single-handedly turned what SHOULD be GSN paint-by-numbers original #47 into one of the more captivating games on television, and she pretty much nails the fine line between being genuinely caring and supportive of the contestants while also absolutely busting the chops of contestants who have it coming. She makes the show more engaging, interesting, and fun for being there in a way that, of the nominee, only Wayne really comes close to equalling. All on a show with a fraction of the budget, most of the best stuff left in the edit bay dump for time, on a 35th-40th place cable channel - and without being able to really do any themed specials or tournaments or showcase episodes as was seen with a lot of the other shows' submissions.

I just watched the above clip of Steve, and y'know...it's a shame that I find the writing and survey board euphemisms so annoying, because Steve actually keeps that game running in a way not seen since the Combs era. I also love the angles that the director uses at times (see 1:15 in that Feud clip).

That said, Wayne and Jonathan have really made LMAD their own show and have a fun little hour going on over there. I also agree that Leah's grown into her role very nicely on what could be a very pedestrian game show. I'm not against Steve winning, but I feel Wayne or Leah probably deserved the award more this year.
