Did anybody watch "Claim to Fame"?
« on: September 07, 2022, 04:58:57 PM »
I'm not usually a fan of reality/competition shows where contestants are gradually eliminated (most of them are crap), but this one wasn't bad.  Each contestant was related in some way to a celebrity - cousin, sister, granddaughter, etc. - and had to keep it a secret throughout the game.  Each episode featured challenges where clues about the celebrity relatives were revealed and had to be pieced together.  Each week there was a "guess off" where somebody was eliminated - either for guessing a fellow contestant's connection right and eliminating them; or by guessing it wrong and eliminating themselves.  The winner got $100,000.

The home audience got to play along for the most part - some of the connections were revealed to the audience - and a couple were obvious - but most weren't.

The only thing is that they typically over-dramatized the events and tension between the contestants, and each hour-long episode could have probably been done in half the time.

During the last couple of episodes they even had a casting call so it looks as if they may bring this back.

Any fans?

I'm not a Jonas Brothers or reality show fan, so I did not watch.

It sounded dumb, so I didn't tune in, but I really should've. It's basically a revival of Relatively Speaking and I know I'm not getting a panel show in 2022 without modifications, so I should give an episode a try. I like Relatively Speaking and like catching episodes whenever they pop up online.
Me: Of all of the game shows you've hosted besides Jeopardy!, like High Rollers or Classic Concentration, which is your favorite?
Alex Trebek: I'd have to say To Tell The Truth, because it was the first time in my career that I got to sit down while I was hosting.

I wonder how long it had been in the oven. I recall ABC has a surfing reality competition that sat on the shelf for five years or more. Claim to Fame is a cute idea but not one I was heartbroken over missing an airing.
If you didn’t create it, it isn’t your content.

For a fleeting moment I thought this was asking about the local-to-San-Francisco panel show from the 1980s:

Either that, or the short-lived 1979 CTV game show that used the Mindreaders music as its theme.  Unfortunately I don't think any video of that still eixsts.

Some psychic Sylvia Browne was, she never got the answer right. She must be a fraud or something. :)
