Working Hard For "Retirement"

If you know how to play strategy, or have a great wealth of knowledge, or both, most of the game shows frequently had retiring champions who either hit their "x" game limit, their $xxx,000 maximum, etc.

What, in your opinions, are the hardest game show to be a retired champion on?

My vote goes to Match Game 7x -- it was based too much on luck in matching with the stars, than coming up with 'definitive' answers.  Plus how many times did contestants come close to or exceed the $25K limit during it's run, once?

Blockbusters required 10 wins(later 20) to go undefeated. And only one team(the McCarthy's) won 20 consecutive games. John Hatten and Leland Yung won 10 games only to come back later in the run and win 10 more games. Concentration only had one undefeated champion in its original run, when you had to win 20 games to retire undefeated.

Carol Bartos came perilously close to reaching the $25K max in '75, but lost what ended up being her final Super Match and instead left w/$20.8K

Darlene won $21.7K just a yr later...her record held up for 3 yrs.

Then in 1979, Joanne Rupp won $22.4K...but seeing that the winnings limit rule was changed so that any player who exceeded $25K was allowed to keep anything up to $35K, it was only a matter of time before that record was broken (especially now that the Star Wheel was in place), and Carolyn became the all-time top winner during the next-to-last week w/$32.6K.

Face the Music. Only one person won all 10 games that they were eligible for.
