"Break The Bank" [1976] Episode Guide (So Far)
« on: April 13, 2023, 11:48:10 PM »
I'm trying to a create a Break The Bank episode guide & I'm using whatever reruns I'm able to find of the show online and other game show related sources as source material. Below is what I got so far, which contains a list of the stars that were on that week as well as the first names of the pair of contestants that were introduced on said episode. Hopefully, this will come out as a good research tool and feel free to add on (or correct an error) as the weeks progress.

Week 2

I can help with what I had from the GSN airings.  The 6th week gets sticky as supposedly they only taped/aired 4 eps.  And I didn't have ep 27.

ABC aired "The American Woman: Portraits in Courage" from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on 5-20-1976, pre-empting R&R, $20K Pyramid and BTB. Source:

Wait. What’s up with week 5? Seems like stuff is out of order there.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

I know that was a typo but I still got a chuckle. 😁

Does your database distinguish between the ABC and syndicated shows?

It does, but the syndicated shows are harder to assign an episode or sequence number to.  The syndicated series tape days had a morning panel and an evening panel, each panel on for 3 shows.  The exception being the second tape day where the panel was on for all 6 episodes.

I have 3 GSN aired episodes -

Debbie vs Jeffrey - Tape day 1, Morning Panel
Elaine vs Carl - Tape day 1, Afternoon Panel
Kay vs Duane - Tape day 4, Morning Panel

Announcers (or as Wikipedia calls them, narrators) I'm assuming Johnny Jacobs, then Ernie Anderson. Jack Barry did some fee plugs on syndie
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

IIRC, Johnny Jacobs was only the announcer for the ABC Daytime series, while Ernie Anderson announced for the syndicated run.  I don't think they subbed for each other.

Ernie did some daytime shows.

My recollection was that the shows that Jack himself did the plugs on were later season reruns after all the originals had made their rounds.

Bumping this thread back up to note that GameTV should be running episode 30 on Monday, which means from here on out should be shows not seen since they were originally broadcast.

Thanks for putting the episode guide together.

I just want to add that the GameTV airings of LIV Golf give me serious nostalgia vibes of when USA would preempt the afternoon block of games for U.S. Open Tennis.

3. 4/14/76: Barbara vs. Ralph
4. 4/15/76: Barbara vs. Ralph (again!)
Not surprising; remember, BtB was one of those shows where the champion went first, and if the champion won before the challenger could select a space on the board, the challenger stayed on for another game. Note that if the challenger's first selection was a blank, and the champion won on the next turn, the challenger did leave.
