Since it's going to be about many years till VH1's "I Love The '90s"...

Right now, E! is running a "101 Reasons the '90s Ruled" marathon, and three game shows made the countdown: "Studs" (a dating game show) at #97, American Gladiators (an athletic game show) at #80, and of course, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire at #56.

Never mind that Studs was nothing more than double entendre innuendo dreamed up by the show's writers, and the audience from Married With Children hooping and hollering thruout the show. The only legitimate part of the show was everyone choosing whom they want to go out on a second date.

Another show with questionable credibility was Bzzz, another hyper, overly caffeinated dating type show. The basic idea behind Bzzz, was, a man (or woman)  introduced to 3 different women (or men). One at a time, the man questions the woman (or vice versa) and if at any time, he feels this is NOT the woman for him, he presses a buzzer, which of course makes a loud noise. Then, another woman is introduced. However, if this happens to be the woman of his dreams, he'll ring a bell.
That couple moves on to a second round, where they play for some prize by trying to match each other. They stand against a wall with a partition, and are asked questions which they can respond with 2 different answers. My memory is sketchy of how the winner was chosen, but at the end of the show, the woman now gets to question the man, and if she feels he's not the right man, she can buzz him, and the date is off!

The contestants on Bzzz just looked too coached and too phony to be real. It also doesn't help that the show's host (Annie Wood) was originally the contestant coordinator, and stepped in as host when the original host didn't work out.

Actually, according to a person from the AG message board, I Love the 90s could be coming late this year or early next year.

Honestly, not bad choices...they're all remember in their own way, but is it really fair to include Millionaire, esp. at such a high position.

I mean, the show aired for a total of what, one month of 1999?*

*Before someone comes and tells me that it aired in August and November, what I'm saying is that it aired for like 2 weeks in Aug., and 2 or 3 weeks in Nov. 2+3=5 weeks, or one month in some cases.

And besides, where's Shop Til You Drop?! :-P

It is an accomplishment for Millionaire with a 70+ year old host to appear on a list that is geared toward 18-49s.  So what if it wasn't exactlt the 90s?  Television fudges the truth all the time.

...BTW, the number one item was...

...Seinfeld (which was an overrated show, BTW. Remember in 1992 when NBC scheduled Seinfeld against Home Improvement - and HI beat it in the ratings. In fact, The Simpsons should have been #1.)

Oh, I'm sure he'll find *some* way to bend it back into game shows again...

ObGameShow: Jason Alexander did a week of "$100K Pyramid" while Seinfeld was on the air. You can either use that or the episode where Kramer turned his apartment into "The Merv Griffin Show." If I have to explain who Merv is, you shouldn't be on this board. :-)

Off-topic: I actually agree with Henke; Simpsons (as bad as it's become nowadays) deserved the #1 position, but I *did* like Seinfeld as well.

The Simpsons, like I Love Lucy on the top 50 TV shows list, was cheated out of #1 by Seinfeld.

OBGameShow: The Simpsons have had episodes featuring Wheel of Fortune, Hollywood Squares, and Pyramid.

Add to the list Millionaire (AKA "Me Wantee!"), Match Game 2034 (with the ever-vivacious head of Kitty Carlisle), Jeopardy!, Hunks (Wow, two independent Studs references in the same thread, yick), and The Gong Show.
