He didn’t say it at the time but I believe Michael intended to win twenty grand on day one thus getting reps in then go hog wild on day two.

He does allude to that in the post-game chat with Peter; he said something along the lines of "I came only wanting twenty, so I could come back."

Saw it tonight after work in Indianapolis and really enjoyed it. I drove 25 miles, bought a big box of popcorn, a large soda (neither of which I ever get) and settled in. There were a grand total of three other people in the theatre.  :(

Without spoiling anything, I will say that the tone of the movie is weird, surreal and kind of dark honestly. As others have said, go in expecting that some major liberties were taken with the story to create villians. In a couple of cases, it seemed extreme and unnecessary. It’s not as light-hearted as I’d hoped it would be. Still enjoyable though.

Nostalgia is OFF THE CHARTS. For those of us who grew up with this show, it was a real treat to see that era recreated so beautifully. The opening and closing credits music was wonderful.

Paul Walter Hauser’s portrayal was incredibly accurate. His voice even sounds like Michael’s. Mannerisms were spot on too. Great casting there.

One minor nitpick is what I felt was an unnecessarily unflattering portrayal of Peter. I mean, who knows what the guy was really like but it’s as if they just said, “oh, he’s a gameshow host, let’s make him smarmy and creepy.”

Some things I found interesting:

* As someone else mentioned, no sign of a Fremantle credit anywhere. I watched the entire credit roll and if it was there, I missed it. There was a whole list of names of people involved in obtaining clearances though so maybe the credit was not part of whatever deal they made. Buzzr did post the episodes attached to the trailer with whammy “popup video” style commentary today though, so seems like they were involved.

*Not sure if this was mentioned, but Byl Carruthers Jr is credited as a “consultant”. Didn’t recognize any other names.

*The way they portrayed the taping wasn’t at all what I expected, but was a creative way to show it without showing it all. God, that set recreation was amazing and there are lots of beauty shots.

Can’t wait to read other’s thoughts!

Good news: Buzzr's airing the actual episodes on April 14th at 5:30 PM ET.

Bad news: It could be the "pop-up video" version they posted to YouTube (which starts with the movie trailer).

Looks like I may have to wait until it drops on streaming:

Two multiplexes within a ½ mile of each other...Two different theater chains...The smaller multiplex is showing the same 6 movies the larger multiplex is...

Both also snubbed "The Day The Earth Blew Up".

This is one of the reasons I don't go to the theaters anymore.  The fact that the movie theaters in our area go for the same 5 or 6 movies when there are many others available, the prices for food and tickets, and the variety of movie genres available nowadays.

Has anyone posted that this is the first of TWO game show movies this year? I just saw it on iMDB. A remake of The Running Man is expected in November starring Glen Powell with Josh Brolin in the role only Richard Dawson could play.

I was gonna say Josh Brolin seems a little young to play such a role. Then I Googled and saw he’s two years older than Richard was when the original Running Man came out.

Granted 1987’s view of the future seemed to be a little prophetic. The 2025 version might be a documentary. :P
