Longest gap between hosting gigs?
« on: August 29, 2024, 10:32:23 AM »
Ahmad Rashad hosted Caesars Challenge in 1994, then hosted Tug Of Words 17 27 years later. I know he also hosted Celebrity Mole for a little while in the early '00s, but as far as traditional studio game shows go that has to be the longest timespan between gigs, right?

I was thinking more along the lines of the traditional meat-and-potatoes hosts like Jack Narz (four years between I'll Bet and Beat the Clock) and Art James (I can't recall the exact number, but it was a big gap between Marble Machine and Catch Phrase).

I think Chris Hardwick has to have a claim, depending on where the line is drawn, but The Wall being 2010s means that he had a decade worth of desert where I don't recall seeing him on television other than Talking Dead and the like.

Reege? (1999 Millionaire - 1975 Neighbors = 24 years)

Even if we call Almost Anything Goes a game show, that's still a long way. He's got to be on the podium.

I think Sam’s math is a bit off. Should be 27 years between CC and Tug of Words. Was about to suggest Reege as well.

Now celebrating his 22nd season on GSF!

Jack Narz (four years between I'll Bet and Beat the Clock)
I've got a bigger gap with Jack: nine years between Concentration (1978) and You've Got to be Kidding (1987) (or seven if we count his one-off turn on Password Plus in '82).

Art James (I can't recall the exact number, but it was a big gap between Marble Machine and Catch Phrase).
Nine years (1976-85), though he did do Super Pay Cards and a few unsold pilots in the meantime.

You'd think with all the Numbers Rounds I've played along with on Countdown I wouldn't make a mistake like that. Face reddened, OP corrected...

Although not the largest, with a gap of a little over 8 years is Dick Clark, between the finale of Missing Links in 1964 and the premiere of $10,000 Pyramid in 1973.

All good. The last decade and change run together for me so I had to do the math a couple times before saying "Wait...was that really 27 years?" :P

I can't think of anyone who beats Ahmad's drought, but there was about a 12- or 13-year gap for Wink. Debt and Instant Reaction. Unless I'm forgetting another show he did, there's also a similar gap for Bob Goen with Born Lucky and That's the Question.

He had Family Secrets in the middle of that, for a short time in 1993.

And "Infatuation" (I know , not really a game show. Not a game show at all. )
