This may be old news to some of you who have seen this on the Barker Era channel, but Game TV ran an episode of The New Price is Right today where one of the showcases was an even $2500. The contestant bid $2100 and missed by $400. According to online guides it's 0292D from March 20, 1973 (it was interesting hearing Bob mention the upcoming time change to afternoons).
It almost seems as if they were hoping for a perfect bid here. As we've discussed, there are showcases now that occasionally have ended in "00", but when you're talking about prices well over $20,000 the odds of hitting it exact are still very low. When you look at the show's early days when showcases were a lot less expensive, a bid of $2500 on a showcase was a pretty common occurrence.
I don't think I'd ever seen this episode before - GSN may have run it but I missed it if it did - so seeing a showcase with that actual price so early in the show's run was surprising.
