BUZZR Q1 2025
« on: December 23, 2024, 08:02:28 PM »
Just saw an ad tonight for a MG90 marathon, starting January 13th.
“New to Buzzr” so I’m assuming it’s finally getting a regular slot?

A regular slot would be great. I know I'm in the minority here but (most likely stemming from the fact that I couldn't watch it during its original run) MG90 was a favorite.

Thanks for posting!! A few points docked however, Buzzr, for not spelling Ross’s last name right!

I, for one, definitely hope that's the case.

Fingers crossed,

I enjoyed it then and I still enjoy it. I think, when it comes down to the format, that’s the best attempt that was made. Sure, the original 7x format works well too, but the addition of Match Up was a good touch.
I suppose you can still learn stuff on TLC, though it would be more in the Goofus & Gallant sense, that is (don't do what these parents did)"- Travis Eberle, 2012

Considering Buzzr is running/has run the CBS Daytime, MG PM weekly and the Nighttime MG 5-a week shows in groups, why not do a 2-hour Match Game block with one of each series with MG 90 rounding out the 4th spot?  I'm pretty sure most of the Rayburn shows that can be aired are converted to digital, so Shaffer's version shouldn't be too hard to convert.

Love to see that as well with a 2-hour block of TTTT: The Colliers, The Moores/Garagiolas, the Wards, and the Elliott/Swann/Trebeks.

Some versions will recycle quicker than others, but by that time, Buzzr usually shuffles the schedule anyway.

Completely OT, but this reminds me of one of the great retro programming blocks of all time.  Six nights a week, the digital subnet H&I runs a five hour marathon of all five live-action broadcast Star Trek series.  One episode each of every show from the original series to Enterprise.  And yes, some versions recycle quicker than others, but when they do, they just go back to episode one for that series and start over.  H&I will freshen up its schedule across other dayparts, but prime time has stayed essentially the same for almost nine years.
This has been another installment of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.
Stay tuned for all the obsessive-compulsive fun of Words Have Meanings.

GSN gave that multi-decade block treatment in the form of The Password Four, which I absolutely loved. BUZZR could do the same with TTTT, Password, and even TPIR.

When I had visited my parents last month I stumbled upon this and knew exactly what I was doing every night at 8pm for the duration of my stay.

Match Game 90 will air from 8:30am to 11:00am (!!!) for at least the week of the 13th and will run the first 25 shows straight through, one week per day.

A fantastic strategy when you're running out of things to run is totally to burn through 10% of the run in a single week, but I think this is actually my favorite version of the show so I'm also really contented to see it. Maybe not that much of it, but...

I'll set up the VLC accordingly. Thanks, Chelsea! I know this is considered "fightin' words" around here, but I do prefer Schafer's Shafer's version of MG to Rayburn's. So, I'm looking forward to this marathon. Granted, he's no Gene, but I do like his biting Northwestern wit & how it added to the show (He is the one who dubbed Bill Nye, "Bill Nye: The Science Guy", you know?).

As for WHY they're airing this marathon in the first place, I've heard some theories: It could be a launch marathon to celebrate the show's addition to the regular lineup, it's in honor of CNR's birthday on January 13th, or as a lead-up to the show's 35th anniversary in 2025 (though that's not until July). However, I'm liking Chelsea's theory of "After nearly a decade, we're running low on content, and we just don't have the funds to acquire shows outside of the Goodson library."
