Celebs Who Went Under Different First Names
« on: January 31, 2025, 11:42:58 AM »
Got into this conversation after watching the MG School Riot episode again:

Which celebrities went under different/slightly different first names on game shows?

On Match Game '7x, Ed Asner went under both "Ed" and "Edward" on the name plate, as did "William" and "Bill" Shatner.

"Jim J." Bullock was sometimes known as "Jm. J", (no i) and occasionally as just "Jim".

"Zsa Zsa" Gabor was also known as "Princess Zsa Zsa" on Davidson's HQ, when she was married to Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, aka "Prince Frederick".

Others?

Scoey Mitchell was never consistent about how many “O”s he had in his name.

Vicki Lawrence sometimes added “Schultz” to her last name.

EDIT: I just realized my second example goes against what Tim was asking.

Patty Duke and Patty Duke-Astin (Does that count?)

Even though she was married to John throughout the entire MG '7X run, CNR almost always referred to her as just Patty Duke. That left me confused as a kid because I thought maybe they had divorced sooner than they actually did.

"Jim J." Bullock was sometimes known as "Jm. J", (no i) and occasionally as just "Jim".

When appearing on All-Star Blitz, he was identified as "Jm. Bullock," I think because of not enough space on nameplate, and on the premiere episode of The New Battlestars, Charlie Tuna introduced him as "Jimmy Bullock" with the nameplate reading "Jimmy."  Sometimes a contestant calling on him would say "J.M. Bullock," or "J.M.J. Bullock."

On the morning mini-marathons of MG90 that have been running this week, he was known as "Jim".

Which reminds me, sometimes no E at all in his last name.

Bowzer and Jon were both used for Mr. Bowman. (Bauman?) There was also Chuck Nelson Reilly, but that was kind of unofficial.

He was credited  as Jm J. Bullock(for some reason, I think it appeared as "JM J. Bullock" in print) in Too Close for Comfort.

The very first episode of Match Game '73 and throughout that week, Michael Landon's name plate was "MIKE" for some odd reason, the only time I can recall him going by the shortened name.

While this isn't in the first name category the first time Suzy Knickerbocker was a guest panelist on "What's My Line?" they gave her the name plate "Miss Knickerbocker".   The second time and every time afterwards she just got a first name plate of "Suzy" (the only one in the history of the CBS run).

If Wikipedia is to be trusted, Wink Martindale's first game show, What's This Song had him credited as "Win" Martindale.

Tom Kennedy went by Jim Narz, until the obvious confusion began
