Game Show Central going OTA
« on: February 12, 2025, 04:52:29 PM »
I don't think this has been discussed here yet, and I haven't seen an official news release about it. But some eagle-eyed viewers have caught a promo on local stations that Game Show Central (GSN's free ad-supported streamer playing mostly reruns of old GSN originals) will begin running over-the-air on digital channels in select markets later this month.

Here's a discussion already happening on another board, with an embedded promo:

I have a feeling Milwaukee's getting this on launch. We have a full-power NBC affiliate and a full-power ION affiliate (both technically owned by Scripps), with 7 and 8 subchannels, respectively. Each currently has a subchannel of Bounce, Grit and Laff.

/There may also be something to do with the Chicago market, as technically the ION affiliate is in both.

One thing that I foresee as an issue is what does GSC do with their current runs of 25WOL and Harvey Feud as they already air on existing OTA affiliates?  GSC can either move them to the GSN cable mothership or drop them altogether.

Is Feud the last remaining Fremantle property currently airing on GSN &/or GSC?

Doesn't MG7x still air during daytime hours?

EDIT: early in the morning apparently.
EDIT2: they also show the Baldwin version.
"Do I really wanna get in on this, Dave?"

-"Ah it depends if you're on cable or network, probably..."

Here is a link to the RabbitEars listing of all GET TV affiliates in the country.

In my area, GET was once a subchannel of WHTM, the ABC affiliate owned by Nexstar, but they swapped it out for something else awhile ago.

It may not be the same schedule as the online stream. I’m guessing it won’t be, as the OTA promo featured a few shows that aren’t on the stream (The Chase being probably the most prominent example.) Plus GSC already has a different feed on Pluto TV that doesn’t run 25WoL or Feud.

Well this explains why GSN's schedule page was janky for a few days last week, showing a doubled-up schedule with some shows that they haven't aired in years like "Caroline & Friends" and "The Newlywed Game" with Sherri Shepherd. I guess that was a preview of the OTA version of Game Show Central. It may have a different schedule from the stream.

Huh… Newlywed I don’t think is all that shocking, given it’s been trotted out on occasion over the years. But Caroline & Friends?? I’d never have thought that would air again.

If a promo airs for GSC, that channel will be switching. Detroit will get it on 31-7.

Confirmed that the Get subchannel is switching in Milwaukee (55-7). The promo seemed to be the only commercial airing on Thursday and Friday when I checked.

31 has so many subchannels that it will be broadcasted in RealVideo format.

For posterity: Based on this schedule, shows shared just with the Game Show Central streaming channel are 1 vs. 100 (GSN), Baggage, Divided, Emogenius, Get a Clue, Idiotest, Mind of a Man, Minute to Win It, and Tug of Words.

Shows shared with Game Show Network on cable are Catch 21, Common Knowledge, and Master Minds.

Shows airing on the OTA channel but on neither of those at present (though some are available on Pluto TV On Demand and some from the 2002-03 class have streamed before) are 20Q, Best Ever Trivia Show, Blank Slate, Caroline & Friends, Caroline & Friends: The Game, The Chase (GSN), Cram, Extreme Dodgeball, Friend or Foe, Hey Yahoo!, Lingo (Engvall), Love Triangle, The Money List, The Newlywed Game (GSN version), and Winsanity.

Wow, shows from the GSN cemetery are rising from the dead. We're going back 20 years with Cram and Friend or Foe.
