That MDS special that was originally a college special now sounds like one of those college-bound specials(high school seniors). Either way, I'm STILL putting up the RED FLAG on it.

most HS Seniors aren't 18, the minimum age to be on TPIR, IIRC.

They're going to have to do better.

I wouldnt be surprised if I see some high school seniors mixed in with the college kids if that's the way we're going with this.

That's my 200th post!  YAY!!!

How does Rich, a weatherman by trade, handle the audience warmup? All weatherfolks THINK they're comedians, but I can't imagine most would be able to transfer that to a live onstage routine.

Not to disparage Rich at all - I can't judge him since I haven't heard any of his work. (But I was just getting ready to sent Fremantle an .mp3 and ask for an audition, so jealousy is there :) )

The last time I saw a weatherman do comedy it was the unintentional kind.  His chromakey went crazy one day and made him semi-transparent.  Even worse, the satellite picture was also on the blink, putting Iowa east of Ohio.

I think Randy will back me up on this: nowadays the TPIR audiences pretty much warm themselves up. It seems you don't have to push many buttons to get them in the mood, but you do have to brief them. "If I call your name stand up and face front. If you have your back to the camera, all we'll see is your fanny doing this." (TURNS BACK TO AUDIENCE AND SHAKES FANNY)

You should've come to a taping of Weakest Link to see a warm-up man REALLY earn his keep.

Warming them up isn't the problem.

Keeping  them warm is. (Often the keyboard sweetening will be used)
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

I'd be interested as to what the final decision process was...  It's obvious that it took a lot longer than at first anticipated...  I'm sorry to hear you didn't get it.  I was hoping that I might have you telling me I'm playing Plinko for many thousands someday...

Randy,

Add me the list of "wish you were there...Permanently" posters.  I really hope that your chances weren't nixed due to your presence on this board during the auditions.

If it's of any consolation, you'll always be a part of our wedding video, since we included the clip of you calling my wife down to Contestant's Row when we stopped by TPIR on our honeymoon!!!

Someone with access to CBS PR could probably find a pic of Bob and Rich together, and I swear there's one floating around.

Steve's web site has a publicity photo accompying the story on his news update page.  I swear Rich is merely half Bob's age if slightly older.  I know for certain that he did 20 years of weatherman work in Palm Springs according to the story.  Looking at that picture more closely, I'm wondering if Bob's "milking" it for publicity purposes.

I'd say Rich is late 40s-early 50s. I say this because we reported a while back that he was considered for the 1986 Syndie Card Sharks gig that Bill Rafferty got(assuming he was early 30s when he auditioned for that)

Oddly enough, the pic on Steve's site is the same one as on golden-road.net, just with the brightness changed.

Why am I not surprised....?
