The topic says it all...

I got a memo at work today from the Pennsylvania Lottery stating that the show has been discontinued across "all MUSL states", and the final installment of the show will air the week of 9/25/04.  Right now, there is a press release on the PA Lottery's website at http://www.palottery.com/lottery/cwp/view.asp?A=11&Q=479259 which about mirror images the memo I got at work.

According to the press release, "declining ticket sales" as well as "diminishing ratings" in all participating markets were the factors for ending the show.

People in other participating states should check with thier respective state lotteries as to the final deadline date to have TV show entries in by.

Seriously, it really was the chinziest Lottery show ever produced. It got a little better when Bob Eubanks was replaced with Todd Newton. The move to an actual casino was nice otherwise it was still a boring game.

Say, considering they have a game called "High Rollers". Do you think they might sauce-up Todd during that segment for the last show ? : )

 Hey, it could make for some interesting television on a Saturday night :-)  

Have a couple of showgirls bring out drinks to Todd during the show...I"m sure Todd has enough "comps" racked up in his many visits in the past two years of doing the show.

 Only after the Wisconsin Lottery Super Money Game was canceled. I've seen first-grade Christmas pageants with better production values.

Oh no! This means I won't get to read Michael Brandenburg's wonderful anecdotes about his lady friends and lottery ticket littering in Kentucky (where I am, BTW) on Saturday nights! What's a man to do?!

BTW, the KY Lottery's "Fun N' Games" show in the early 90's makes PIM look like TPIR in comparison. It was a cross between PYL and WOF, without the luck or the fortune. It lasted around 6 months.

Seriously, it really was the chinziest Lottery show ever produced. It got a little better when Bob Eubanks was replaced with Todd Newton. The move to an actual casino was nice otherwise it was still a boring game.

Ooo, the Michigan Lottery show in all of its incarnations was el-Cheapo in every possible way.  From low production values to a relatively small top prize: $50,000 if you picked the right key the first time, $25000 on the second try, $10,000 on the third try, or defaulting to $5,000.  The front game was REALLY boring (either pick a letter from the word FORTUNE (Megabucks Giveaway and previous incarnations all the way back to Fame and Fortune, or pick a mode of transportation on Road to Riches).

Fortunately the show was cancelled a few years ago.  Now the weatherman who hosted it is hosting "Gimme the Mike!": a Detroit version of "American Idol" with about the same level of production values, and the prize being a car.  I'm not  sure if there's anything like a recording contract or an interview with the assistant of the secretary of a record executive as a prize.

I guess that's what happens when my local affiliate(WPVI-TV or as they call it now 6ABC) airs the show at 11:35 PM ET after the local news.  I'll definitely miss that show.  I guess I'll have to go back to listening to the final hour of 70's music on Saturday nights on the radio come October 2nd.

 Was that the one that had an announcer named Buzz Baxter who tried way too hard to sound like Don Pardo?
If so, that show had a unique final episode where the host and hostess were brought before a firing squad during the closing segment.

Rhode island never aired this show..... perhaps with good reason. Is it really that chintzy? Still sorry that I never got to see it. The Powerball Lottery seems Big here, so it's a shame we never got to see the TV show.

 Maybe I or someone else can send you a tape.  I have it on my cable-only UPN station, downgraded from the CBS station earlier.
