Wonder what this could mean for MGM game shows?

Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

Absolutely nothing, in all honesty.  If GSN isn't going to air what they already have, what chance would most of the MGM shows have?

My wild guess is that this could possibly put us closer to having reruns of Davidson HS again....

Take it for what it's worth....I LIKED Davidson HS. :-)

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

And as I have stated before, if they are to acquire any "classic", this would be the one...as people in the coveted demographic bracket would remember this version well.

What else does MGM have anyhow?

"High Rollers" with Wink and maybe we could get MG/HS if all parties agree.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

That won't work, cause the late Gene Rayburn requested that they never air again.

How much legal weight does a request carry exactly?

And wasn't it said that that was just a rumor based on Gene Wood's claim that Gene R. was "dragged kicking and screaming into the hour?"

Either way, it won't be back. If we can't get TJW, TTD, or even Bullseye on GSN, MG/HS won't be.

Wasn't it in Gene's will? Is that the rumor, anyway?

Somebody should do a website called "Game Show Urban Legends."  Gene's on every night on MG posthumously, his work on MG/HS is just as good.  Besides, why would someone who is deceased have any say on whether Jon Bauman's only network show can be supressed?  The convoluted rights issue was the hangup and if Sony gets the MGM stuff, it is my feeling the issue can be rectified.  The MG portion of the  show isn't very far removed from the MG of old.

MGM has, besides the shows already mentioned, the rights to whatever Heatter-QUigley shows exist. GSN went to them to get the Marshall HS package they aired in 2002-03. In 1999, King World obtained the international format rights to the shows Heatter did after Quigley's retirement(not including High ROllers). MGM also packaged the ill fated Sex Wars in syndication in 2000.

I don't see GSN, given current trends, running MG-HS, if they're able, as anything but a "Before They Were Stars" curio (i.e. the Jay Leno and Arsenio Hall episodes).  Realistically, if GSN stopped running the Marshall Squares episodes because the celebrities weren't striking a chord with viewers, why would they run shows with these guys?

Only other possibilities:
High Rollers back to back with Jeopardy! (Trebek then and now)
Magnificent Marble Machine if they run a bad show block

Oh-oh..could be trouble...do I dare say I was one of the 32 people who actually liked Sex Wars? Not the most original concept, but the hosts did a nice job carrying the format, cheering on their teams, and keeping the delightfully cheesy show - ahem - lighthearted entertainment...

Urban legend if I ever heard one.  We've been able to debunk that one within the last year or so.  Those who have followed this legend should know (and if you don't, you will now........) Rayburn meant "Break the Bank '85".  He DID want Game Show Channel (er......that's actually GSN) to air MGHSH.  What's holding it up is the ownership issues.

Now......if Sony is able to buy out MGM and gets MGHSH in the deal, I would think it would be pretty easy to get some help from Fremantle's end, given their relationship.

Of course, MGM also has something called movies that Sony has gotten heavily into with various acquisitions.  That might be the overriding reason.  But this could end up being a nice little bonus for the GS fans.
