Triple Threat

Does anyone remember a Game Show called Triple Threat?  It was on WGN in 1988-1989, and it was hosted by Jim Lange, and MTV VJ Alan Hunter, and It tested contestants' knowledge on Music, Movies, and TV.   There was a revival of that show in 1992 for BET, and Good Morning America's Spencer Christian was the host, It was announced by the announcer of Alex Trebek's first American Game Show, The Wizard of Odds, and was produced by Star Search creator Al Massini.

It was an all music-based Q&A show(save for the endgame on the episode hosted by ALan Hunter, where the players had to match actors to movies, rather than songs to artists)

Do you pick random shows out of the GSE to post about? You would have been 2 when "Triple Threat" debuted.

Sam Riddle, who worked as a Los Angeles radio DJ during the 1960's, announced Wizard of Odds in 1973.  [Yeah, him and then some guy named Charlie O'Donnell. :) ]

By the late 1980's, his voice can be heard on Triple Threat as well as Star Search, both of which he also served as supervising producer.

Here in NY, we originally got TT Sun. nights at 10:30 on WPIX (Ch. 11), but it soon moved to Sun. morn at 11:30 on WWOR (Ch. 9), which is where I remember watching it when I was 10.

Vaguely remember the 1988 version...all I remember is that it aired on Sunday afternoons on WVEC in Norfolk. Always tried to watch the BET version, and wanted to be on as a contestant with relatives.

I'm pretty sure that "Triple Threat" was the last syndicated game show that was on only once a week.  This was a common practice in the '70s, but by the early '80s most syndicated games were five a week (or a "strip") format.  I remember being surprised at the time that it was only a once-a-week show.

That was 1988-89. In 1989-90, two more ill fated syndie once a weekers came along: College Mad House and a syndicated version of Remote COntrol. The early 90s saw four more clunkers: Krypton Factor, Pick Your Brain, Scramble, and Sports Snapshot(the latter three from the 1993-94 season). So Triple Threat wasn't the last.
