A while back a poster at the GSN boards made mention of the fact that during the Combs years Richard Dawson made a cameo appearance at some point. Is there any truth to this? If so, when did it happen, and which version did he appear on?

Didn't Happen.

And now to your follow up question....

I sorta figured. I would have heard about it by now if it were true. But I had to ask to be sure.

Closest was when his name appeared as one of the answers on a Combs episode...think it was the "GS host as an evangelist" question from the comedian special?  Ray's response: "Who's THAT?!!?"

I consider the whole 94-95 season a cameo appearance.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Still, I'd love to see a 94-95 episode.  I've never seen one.

You'd take one look at Richard and weep.

A while ago I asked for the first episode, call it morbid curiosity or whatever (and BTW, the first one had the former MG contestant in the second half, right?).  It wasn't *THAT* horrid, actually.  Don't know if it went more downhill after that or anything, though.  Still, at any rate it remains the black sheep of the Feud family...yes because of the cheapening of the show and the inferior set...I know some of you like to get on the case of those who obsess about that sort of thing, but still.  Plus we all knew what Richard's return led to for Ray Combs, so it will always be a sore spot as far as that's concerned.

For someone who has never seen it:  what did they do to cheapen the show?

And of the set, I can't tell you how many times people have begged me to do a Family Feud game based on the 94-95 set.  Was it that inferior?

I assume he's referring to Bankroll, which on top of being annoying, was cheaper than its predecessor. $2,500 starting pot in half one with $500, $1500 and $2500 questions. Half two of course doubled.

The set was awful barren. On the E!THS they showed it with the cyclorama backdrop off and it looked like a dark grey room. Nothing to it at all. I imagine the requests come from curiosity or just a want for completedness. (That's not even a word...)

Call me crazy, but I find the "Feud 94" season to be my favorite. Sure Richard was older and fatter, but he still had a good grasp of humor (Even if he did whisper and mumble too much) and the set and music were amazing. (If a little too overly-jazzed-up), personally I felt the show needed an update after almost 18 years of the same old-fashioned set and music and the reduction of "Bullseye"-ish round "Bankroll" added in more game time.

Also, I like the "Ka-Ching" sound that was played whenever the $2500/$5000 was put into the banks. I sorta like the "Jeopardy!" style changing of the set from Blue to Red for "FM"

Asking about what was cheep about it. Max win was slashed from $30,000 to $21,000 as "Bankroll" was 3 qs worth $500, $1500, $2500 (Double that in the 2nd half) and the number of members on a family was reduced from 5 to 4.

The only thing that bugged me about it was Richard made constant refrences to his daughter and he would always say the other FM contestant is in "A Big Plastic Baggie"

Ah yes, the "plastic baggie"...which begat Louie Anderson's numerous lame FM jokes...;-)

The ka-ching was a Macintosh sound effect too, wasn't it?

Anyway, yeah, while set changes aren't all necessarily bad, this one just felt like what seemed like scaling back (see also: the bankroll observations, and the shrinking of the teams).  Plus I always liked the "classic" set with the light blue and dotty board, so I did resent it for taking that from me ;-)  And the chyronned board was cheesy.  Looking at 100 Mexicanos Dijeron now, and Family Fortunes in the UK, would it have been that bad for the electrical board to be "outed"?

I somehow doubt this is true, but to my understanding, the chyronned board was shown to the TV audiences only. Is there any truth to that?
