Every Emmy Game/Reality Nominee...

This morning at 8:40 a.m. ET, the Emmy nominations were released to the public.  Here's my annual compilation of all of the game/reality nominees that are even remotely on topic (which is the majority of them this year, since "Super Millionaire" didn't get the nod).

First of all, the big category that Edie Falco and Tony Shalhoub seemed to not want to announce on this morning's announcement, televised by all of the major network and cable morning shows (and "Cold Pizza"), leaving it to ATAS president Dick Askin, a man with the tongue of Jack Barry:

Also in passing, the competition-element "Project Greenlight" was nominated in the Reality Series category with "Colonial House," "Extreme Makeover:  Home Edition," "Penn & Teller:  Bullshit!" (hope they announce the title Emmy night) and "Queer Eye."

"Survivor" picked up 5 nominations, "TAR" and "Apprentice" 4, "Idol" 3.

The series winner will be announced on ABC Sept. 19 to the great indifference-to-hostility of the SAG/WGA-member-dominated audience (that's why you have Bobby Douglass, John Bicklehaupt or Bob LaMasney sweetening awards shows).  The rest of the awards listed above will probably be handed out at the Creative Arts ceremony on Sept. 12, which E! will probably televise on a delayed-and-edited basis.  Good luck to all!

 Why would Super Millionaire get a nod in a Reality TV category? Since it is considered a Game Show by the Emmy voters wouldn't it still be part of the Daytime Emmys like WWTBAM was? The Price is Right had episodes in prime time last season and that did not get a nod either.

It seems to me that the Reality/Competition category was created (among other reasons) to allow prime time game shows to be entered for prime time Emmys (remember that "WWTBAM" had to compete in the daytime Emmys for its run).  It seemed to me that enough "Super Millionaire" and "TPIR MDS" episodes aired in the eligibility period to be eligible as series.

At the very least, "TPIR MDS" could've been entered in Special Class Program, which, with the exception of the inexplicable nomination of that awful "Dick Van Dyke" reunion, seems to have turned out to be the now-dropped Arts/Classical Music Program category with a new name.  Guess Davies forgot to make the submission or Fremantle wanted to put its focus on "Idol" instead.
