TPiR-LIVE update
« on: August 08, 2004, 11:15:36 PM »
I've been getting a good amount of e-mail asking about TPiR-LIVE. As my schedule is making it tough to respond personally as quickly as I usually do, I thought a general up-date might be appreciated.

Bente Christenson took a week of the TV show's summer hiatus to get Rincon/San Diego up, running, and looking hot. Today ends our first two weeks, and the crowds have been wonderfully responsive. Chris Harrison and I have been having a ball. He returns to "The Bachelor" this week, and is just about to sign on the dotted line for another high-profile network show. Great guy, great family, and fun at the blackjack tables.

Todd has been doing such a kick-ass job in Atlantic City that the show has already been extended for at least a month. I may pick up some of those dates after Rincon wraps in mid September. It all depends on whether or not I can massage some TV committments in LA.

Meanwhile Dr. Newton is winging his way in from AC to Rincon for shows starting on Thursday. He told me today that his suits are pressed and he's ready to rock. I can't wait to share the stage with him again!

The TPiR-LIVE format has been tweaked by Freemantle's boy wonder Mandel to make it even more fun, and to allow more audience members to "Come On Down". In other news, I can't name names, but watch for the word that at least one more host... a "classic" host... will be joining the TPiR-LIVE host rotation. You'll hear it here first   ;-)

I hope to see you at Harrah's. The towels are so fluffy, I can hardly close my suitcase   ;-p

Maybe they make the towels like that so you can't steal them. :-)

 What he said!

Herself has been looking for a reason to make an AC excursion; this would certainly be it.

Randy W. originally was scheduled to make the trip with Todd to kick off TPIR LIve in AC last month, but his schedule changed at the last second. Hopefully you'll get here next month, Randy. WHo is currently hosting TPIR live, now that Todd is hosting in San Diego, Randy or anyone know? I'm getting a ticket for next Monday's episode.

Jeff Trachta is at the helm in AC for the next few weeks. He does a great job with the show. Enjoy.

Chill the brewski. While not yet definite, the planets seem to be aligning for some AC time for me in late September early October.

And speaking of AC in September, watch the Miss America pageant this year. A new host whose name has been mentioned around here is said to be replacing Bob Goen. The deal is still not signed, but looks good. No, not Bert Parks.

Call me crazy (<Dan Sadro> YOU'RE CRAZY! <end Dan Sadro>--whatever happened to him anyway), but it just won't be the same without seeing the "talent" competition.

Bob Goen did host a couple of pageants in recent years IIRC, but he never did the Miss AMerica pageant. Tom Bergeron did last year's pageant, and gave one of the better hosting performances the pageant has seen in years. Hopefully the ratings will improve over last year's pageant; this year's pageant telecast has reportedly been cut from three hours to two.

PATRICK WAYNE??? Send that man above to a nice rubber room!

Meanwhile, I wonder if Randy dropped Goen's name because he IS hosting the pageant this year? He'd make a fine host, having handled Miss USA/Universe previously, but he - and Billy Bush for that matter - are lacking one thing: a connection to ABC/Disney. As far as I can remember every Miss America pageant since about 1985 has featured as host or co-host someone actively connected with ABC in some way.

[UPDATE: Appending the above, Donny and Marie Osmond (2000) were not actively working for ABC or Disney when they hosted Miss America, though they had a talk show in syndication at the time - handled by Columbia Pictures TV.]

This dates back to when Kathie Lee Gifford (then Johnson) was a correspondent for GMA - and that was before Gary Collins got the gig on "Home". I don't recall a pageant since then where the show was hosted by anyone other than ABC/Disney folk.

That stated, here's my guess on who might be the host of this year's pageant: Chris Harrison. Hey, he can handle TPiR Live, that three year stint next to Julie Krone, Todd Schrupp and Frank Lyons at TVG, and he's got the ABC connection with The Bachelor. And, since Glenn Osser's orchestra has long been retired (Boo!) there's no requirement for him to sing. All he need be is his loveable, charming self.

Whadya think, troops?
