When and why did NBC stop having the "some contestants will receive" promotional plugs at the end of their game shows?

They didn't have fee plugs at the end of game shows from 12/28/87-1/15/93. WIn Lose or Draw bowed on 9/7/87 without any fee plugs, however. Fee plugs were bought back for NBC's 1993 game shows. When Classic Concentration reruns from 1987 were shown in 1992-93, fee plugs were edited out.

Instead of getting Turtle Wax, Rice-A-Roni, Meow Mix, you would get a nice inexpensive prize up to $500 on NBC game shows.  Guess they wanted to attract viewers since the rise of talk shows was coming back.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

Right--I want to watch Scrabble give away a lovely Dirt Devil Vaccuum.

If I remember the trade mag articles correctly, NBC wanted to cut advertising clutter; hence the policy change.
Let's Make a Deal was the first show to air on Buzzr. 6/1/15 8PM.

Exactly--TV Guide even gave NBC a Cheer in Cheers and Jeers for implementing the policy.

Notice that every time clutter gets cut (as in the 1971 NBC decision that started to phase out the peacock, end the end-of-show "snake" logo animation completely and temporarily ended animated production company logos, among other things), it seems to creep back up again.

Boy, I wish network execs still had the "cut the clutter" mentality.

Pretty soon we'll have to have a new cable network , the clutter free network.  It will run a variety of shows, with no on screen during the show "you're watching...coming up.... crap", and no squished credits.
