Since 1/2 Off is played for $10,000 in cash, it stands to reason that it should be harder to win.
By "harder" do you mean the outcome should depend on skill or chance? Right now the "choose one of the remaining boxes" aspect is 100% chance. Dice Game is an interesting example of a game with a large component of chance but which can be won with pricing skill.
No, it's not. Really, what's the difference between a $15,365 car and a $15,363 car? Once you get past the thousands digit, it's pure guesswork.

Your version can very well take the suspense of the box reveal at the end of the game, and stick it onto the price of a small prize.
Only if the contestant makes it that far. If they miss at any point prior to the final pick, they still get to choose from the remaining boxes.
Still, all your idea does is change it's SP portion from being Bonus Game-like (which I think is a bit of a stretch), and make it Grand Game-like (for sure) with maybe a cool box reveal at the end. You guarantee wins at the expense of what little uniqueness the game has. It's just not very good to me.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

An option worth $2 that you could probably identify if you really wanted to and you watched often enough, thus retaining the concept of "pure pricing skill."

1) I was thinking that Half Off was played with grocery items for some reason. (I have yet to see the game actually played.)

2) Seems like everyone's decided that even the title of J*ker is cursed. :)

3) I personally have no problem with games that can be unwinnable through bad luck, per se. I just like to remind people who are complaining about it in general that said condition often holds for some of their favorite games, too.
