Another thing MG 90 did that MG 98 never did was bring back some of the MG favorites. Dick Martin, Avery Schriber (being much more sedate than he was in the 70s), Betty White, Brett of course, JoAnne Worley, and even Mary Wickes.

MG 90 also had its share of soap stars that obviously didn't want to be there (as did MG 98) which IMO killed the atmosphere of the show. I think if What the Blank does sell, they really need to book stars that like the show and enjoy it, yet they don't hog the camera and slow down the game.

The only MG7x celeb to do MG98 IIRC was Vicki Lawrence. I think Goodson and Co. being involved(some staffers who did MG7x also worked MG90) had something to do with 70s era guests being on MG90(and Kitty, Polly, Peggy and Orson being part of TTTT90).

As for the soap star influx, the show being on ABC could have a little do with it. A few less-than-bright soap stars did All-Star Blitz and cost the show some of the Squares-style antics it otherwise could have had.

Not all the ABC shows that lent their stars to MG were soaps.  Khrystyne Haje (Head of the Class) and Bill Kirkenbauer (Just the Ten of Us) were semi-regulars.  Come to think of it, Ten was a lame duck when Bill first appeared, but he continued to drop by even after the show left.

To give you a matter of perspective of how long ago 1990 was, Marcia Wallace, a semi-regular from the '70s version, appeared often on MG90, after just signing on to do some little show called The Simpsons.

3) SuperMatch values were: $500, $250, $100* (changed later in the run)

If you want to get REAL nit-picky, the Super Match wall went through three minor changes...went from white to gold foil/reflector wallpaper to silver foil/reflector wallpaper.

and 6) the Tie-Breaking Match-Up and "WIN!" sign were different (it said WINNER).

The tiebreaker was different on the first show(first time played) than it was on the third show(second time played). The first tiebreaker had only one of the players choose the answer from three Match-Up choices, while the revised tiebreaker two shows later had both players choosing an answer.
