Does that include the enclyclopedia parting gift?

Great question. Right up there with dispelling bowling buddy fiction.

No World Book, Z-Brick, Turtle Wax, or even a bucket of KFC for Ken until he loses. As long as he continues his streak, all he'll win is cash. Once he's defeated, THEN he gets the home game and all the other trappings of success.

Back to you, Art.

And for most of the original run, before the networks wanted to make sure they got their maximum six fee plugs per half-hour, the only consolation prizes on "J!" were your score in the game, the latest edition of the Encyclopedia International and the latest edition of our Jeopardy! game--and thank you so much for playing.  Ken Jennings, young man, you will return tomorrow to defend your championship for the 40th time with a total of $67,673--and we hope all of you at home can join us in the morning.  Have yourself a great day and treat each other well--so long!

(Of course, NBC would've never allowed this in the first place--remember, in 1964 the quiz scandals had happened six years prior--and as is well documented, the only way Merv could get a Q&A show on the air at NBC in 1964 was to have the host read the answers and the contestants give the questions.)

"You don't get to come back tomorrow.  You don't even get a lousy copy of our home game. You're a complete loser!"

Sorry, it had to be said.

With Fleming/Pardo era winnings now at $69,033, let's bring Mark Jeffries back into the forum with his parting words for the day to Ken Jennings and to our home audience.

DON PARDO:  "Jeopardy!," in color, was pre-recorded.  Now stay tuned for Art James and "The Who, What or Where Game," next on most of these NBC stations.

Given Ken's penchant for round numbers when making wagers, I doubt he'd have exactly that amount, but that total makes Burns Cameron's take seem like the budget for a Pax show.

Edit: Besides, weren't there just five categories on the board in the Fleming era?
