In the TTD'90 Bonus, did anyone win the max $8000 (four of the champ's mark for $500, then $1000, $2000, $4000, then the Dragonslayer)?

 From my very hazy memory of TTD90 (blame the local affiliate airing it at 4 AM)...

Is that scenario even possible?  Weren't there just four of the champ's marks on the board, 3 of which created a tic tac toe?  Or was it 5 of the champ's letter, two of the other letter, the crappin', er, rappin' dragon, and the dragon slayer?  If the former is what happened on the show, then the maximum would be just $4000 ($500 doubled three times).

Did it even matter which letter was the champ's?  I always figured that the board was laid out before he chose a letter.

Of course, I could easily be wrong; I haven't seen TTD'90 in over ten years.

On the 1990 version, the conestant wins only if his letter appears on the board, or if he gets the dragonslayer. If he dragoned, or if the mark of his opponent gets Tic Tac Toe, he loses. In some games, the contestant could only win if he gets the slayer.

The bonus round is similar to the one used in CBS's run in 1978, except that there was just the dragon, and the contestant wins if he Tic Tac Toes with either X or O.

 I do recall a player getting three in a row of the other symbol once.  If that happened, play just went on as usual, although it was clear the only way to win was to find the rappin' dragon slayer.

I do recall a player getting three in a row of the other symbol once.  If that happened, play just went on as usual, although it was clear the only way to win was to find the rappin' dragon slayer.

Just curious:  if the player got the Dragon Slayer on the first pick, did they get any money at all, or just the prizes?

First pick Slayer won $1,000 plus the prizes.

One boring day in math class, I figured out that if you put six X's in the right places, an O, and the two characters, if all went right, you could win $32,000.  At least it could have forced the show into early bankruptcy...

 [Pat Summerall]There's a flag on the play.[/PS]  The first X is worth $500, so six X's would get to you to only $16,000.  But you're right about the first-pick Slayer.
