Name That (Game Show) Tune!
« on: October 02, 2004, 09:34:10 AM »
Most of the diehards on the forum know the official title names to some of the game show themes we know & love, such as:

Jackpot (Edwards NBC) -- "Jet Set"
$10K Pyramid -- "Tuning Up"
Hollywood Squares -- "Bob & Merril's Theme"
Wheel of Fortune ('75) -- "Big Wheels"
The Joker's Wild ('73) -- "The Savers"
The Match Game ('60s) -- "A Swingin Safari"

Any other well known titles, or rarely known ones?  I purposely left out some gimmies (especially if you own any of the Game Show CDs) for others

Themes that are simply called "The <INSERT GAME SHOW NAME HERE> Theme" songs Do Not Count.

Make Me Laugh '79-"Laugh!"
Knockout-"The Big Beat"
Sports Challenge-"Get Back" [yes, it was a remake of the Beatles tune]

Also, as per BMI.com, several of the Dream House cues have names, mostly "In My [insert room name here]".

There are three things I've learned never to discuss with people: Religion, politics, and the proper wrapping of microphone cables.

THANK YOU!!!

I had heard that theme on Matt O's game show theme audio tapes that he distributed during GSC4 back in '96; thought it sounded like "Get Back", but wasn't sure.

This accounts for why nobody mentioned "Chump Change" yet.

Hollywood Squares -- "Bob & Merril's Theme"
The original theme was called "The Silly Song".

Wasn't the title of the Jeopardy! theme something like "A Time for Tony" or a "A Tune for Tony" or something or other?

I had picked up "Sports Challenge" off one of the Yahoo groups, which is how it got to the Ultraplex, and got the "Get Back" connection pretty quickly.  Rather odd comparing the original with a few guitars and drums versus a full orchestra.

I've been told that "Jeopardy!" '78 was titled "Frisco Disco, so we might be able to add that to the list.

Also, the first theme from Bill Cullen's TPIR was called "The Sixth Finger Tune."

"You Bet Your Life"'s many themes included one called "Hooray for Captain Spaulding."

Really?  I always thought The Savers was used on the early syndie shows.  ('Course, I've never seen one, so maybe I just can't read.)

You're right -- the first syndie season used "The Savers" as an opening theme and "Joker's Jive" as a closing theme.

THE GONG SHOW -- "Lovee's Come Back"

And Steve Allen's IGAS used his "This Could Be The Start of Something Big" to open the show (not sure if you want to call that the theme as another music bed played under the closing credits and into the commercial breaks).
