Just wondering does the host actually know the survey answers? They seem surprised sometimes when they seem then as they're displayed, but its way too common that they know exactly when the 3rd strike is about to happen.

Dawson and Combs stated a few times that they have no idea what's up there.  However, I'm sure they play along too (as much as they can) so if they make it look like they know when a third strike is coming, they can probably figure out THAT answer likely won't be there!

Maxene Fabe's book showed a typical "Feud" question card.  No answers on it--just  (TV scripts are generally all caps):

WE SURVEYED 100 PEOPLE, TOP (number) ANSWERS ON THE BOARD--TRY TO FIND THE MOST POPULAR ANSWER:

(Question)

Yeah, I guess that was on every question, even if Dawson or Combs (or Louie or Karn) really needed it or need it.

Even without the Fabe book, though, I think we could surmise that the answers are not on the card since Dawson (and probably Combs, though I don't recall specifically) frequently showed the question to the contestants as he moved down the line.

Karn just isn't funny. He can't get a reaction unless he does, indeed, go wild and double the points.

Louie, on the other hand, is funny. Can someone who saw Bergeron's Squares (it only ran one of the seasons in Minneapolis) say if Louie was on there very often after his booting from the Feud? He was pretty darn good on Davidson's version--no mean feat.

I don't think he ever appeared on the show. Louie seems to have been out of the spotlight since being booted from Feud. I guess that controversy hurt his career. Looking at Karn, I realize that Louie really wasn't that bad, he just stumbled a lot. Karn tries too hard to pump energy into the show, i.e. "I'm DOUBLING those points! Yeah, baby!". I'm with you, it's like he's begging for the audience's attention. It should just come naturally.

I stand corrected. :-) Was this during the Whoopi or H2 era?

Both, actually...he did a partial wk during the first season in Nov 1998, a full week the following April, and returned during (I think) the first season (02-03) of the Winkler-Levitt era.

Were most weeks in season 1 partial ones? By that, I mean did celebs often change from day to day?

Why was Louie only on for part of a week then?

But not before Louie distracts him by asking, "IS IT UP THERE?" ;-)

It might've been the week that Robin Williams and Billy Crystal guested (Comic Relief reunion--Thanksgiving week 98). IIRC, Robin and Billy appeared for the first three days, then a new panel took over for Thursday and Friday. AFAIK, that was the only partial week during the run.

...and then follows up by telling him that he "surveyed 100 people, top 5 answers on the board, give me that popular answer, get the points, get the points win the game, win the game play Fast Money, play Fast Money and...I KICK YOUR ASS!" ;-)
