How were two or three way ties at the end of a round decided?

A tiebreaker question was asked for a two way tie in the first or second round. A player buzzing in and getting it right moved on to round two or the bonus, a wrong answer allowed the other player to automatically advance.

I've not seen a three way tie at the end of the first round, but my guess is that they'd play two tiebreaker questions to see who moved on.

Were the tiebreakers worth $50 or nothing at all?
