When the original Family Feud with Richard Dawson aired its' 2000th episode, was anything special done for the occasion?

I could swear one of the episodes deviated from normal gameplay in which they either played an abbreviated game or wound up not playing the game at all. Was this the episode?

I know one of Dawson's birthday eps. was abbreviated. At the time, Richard's son Mark was residing in England, and Richard hadn't seen him in a while. Well, Howard made arrangements to fly Mark to LA to surprise Richard. (This was sometime between '78-'79)

The intro had Cathy and Gary standing at one podium, with the other family at the other podium. Richard, of course, doesn't know what's going on, and asks. Gary wishes his father a happy birthday, and then the door slides open and Mark comes out. Richard was so overcome with emotion, he looks at Howard and said "I'm sorry, I cannot do the show now", and took up a lot of time to thank his staff and explain what was going on. As a result, they played 2 regular rounds and 2 Fast Money rounds. Both families were of course brought back on the next show since a regular game couldn't be played.

Mark Goodson appeared via videotape and read one of his bad poems.

Also, the dot-matrix Family Feud sign read "HAPPY 2000" instead of "FAMILY FEUD."

Depends on how much you want to show off, I think. ;) Two ways of describing the same thing, ultimately. One's just being game-show-geek technical, and the other gets the point across. Nothing WRONG with being a game-show-geek, mind you, we're in good company. :)

Thanx, Aaron. Wasn't sure about that.

Dawson commented on and praised his staff and said "95% of what you watch, they're responsible for, and I love 'em all." I guess it's obvious who made up the remaining 5%, isn't it?
