\"Feud\" had lost a number of key stations and time slots thanks to the \"Wheel\" juggernaut. Besides, the daytime show ended and too many people at MGP probably wanted to be rid of Dawson forever and ever.
Enright had nothing else but \"TTD\" and \"TJW\" (and he owned the syndicator). He probably thought that they had still enough good stations and time slots to ride out perhaps another year. If he had another series in the bag--and hadn't suffered the loss of Richard Kline and several other key employees--he might've dropped at least one of the two shows. Alas, it's difficult to establish a new format in syndication, \"Hot Potato\" had just bombed on NBC and after \"Twenty-One\"'s rejection as a pilot a few years earlier, he had nothing else in the closet to pull out that was fresh. So, he hired a new host for \"TTD,\" redid the set on that show and crossed his fingers. It didn't work.
