Ever see a game show board game....
« on: October 28, 2004, 03:40:22 PM »
I remember being in a store in the summer of '87, and seeing the "Win, Lose, Or Draw" game with a sticker on it "based on the NBC-TV daytime game show".....Mind you, this was about a month or two before the show premiered.

Same with me.  I remember it had that "Ace in the Hole" feature but I never saw it on the show.

I already knew that "Pictionary" also came into the board games before the debut of the TV Show version of the game.

As well, tell me if I'm smoking something or not......I also seem to remember a "Preview episode" that was aired (WNEP-16 from Scranton aired it the night before the premiere, Sunday night, at 6:30, in place of "PA Outdoor Life"), that gave everyone an idea of how the game was played.

Top Secret by Parker Brothers and By the Numbers by Milton Bradley are based on unsold television pilots.

Half right.
By the Numbers was a local show only.

I saw the game that Summer as well. It certainly didn't play much like the TV show did, other than the drawing pictures to guess the phrases.

Was Peter Marshall's "Celebrity Piggy" ever a show? It was a box game.

Nope.  Just a money-making venture of Pete's that didn't work.

And somehow, I recall either Vicki or Bert holding up the box maybe once or twice and saying that everyone would receive a copy of the game.  Don't hold me to a date, though--I'm not Horan.  :)

And you should thank God for that each and every morning.

I can confirm that Bert, at least, pimped the box game on the show.

Very early in the run, there also was a regular television commercial promoting the home game, featuring Bert Convy.

It showed people disappointed that the tv show ended for the day, and had to wait 'til the next day to watch and play along.  Then Bert, on their TV, tells them,  they didn't have to wait, they could play the home game!

The promo ends with Convy, seen on their television, saying the correct answer, and ruining their gameplay.  It also stated, "The Win, Lose or Draw home game; Bert Convy not included."
