PYL cue on Letterman
« on: November 09, 2004, 11:57:54 PM »
Tonight's episode of Letterman has a game called BRUCE OR PAUL?, where one contestant sees the backs of the heads of Bruce Willis or Paul Shaffer and has to take a guess as to whom the back selected belongs to.

While the contestant was looking Paul and Bruce's heads, a certain PYL cue (think BIG BUCKS, NO WHAMMIES, STOP) played.

  • Just leave the set; that’d be terrific.

And at the grocery store I went to tonight, I heard a little beep-beep whenever an item was scanned.

True, but if David Ruprecht is there and you hear Randy over the intercom, then you're on to something.

And did anyone in the Letterman audience squeal "no whammies" with delight and glee?

Was there any mention of it later in the show?

No?  Maybe you'd be well-advised to reflect on that.

Semantics alert.

I thought Ruprecht did his own intercomming ("Attention, shoppers, today's special item is the [insert brand here] corn!"--or words to that effect).

There was another PYL connection that you overlooked.  After the woman guessed correctly, Dave commented that "Bruce or Paul?" didn't have much of a game to it...

You win the mini-sweep--in fact, somehow I recall Randy (or his writer) giving David a lead-in for that announcement once...
