In a nutshell: Ripley's Believe It or Not + The Gong Show = Hey! Spring of Trivia

Two half-hour shows air back-to-back. It's a Japanese show dubbed in English.

People send in trivia and each of five celebrity judges rank how impressive the factoid is on the scale of one hey (points) to twenty hey. The highest score possible is one hundred. I think the factoid with the highest score wins a prize of some sort (this point is not clear).

Among the factoids last night: There is a KFC within walking distance of the Sphinx. Crawfish urinate through their faces (ew!). Some Chinese children wear crotchless underwear (eeeew!). Termites will follow any line drawn in ink. Spiders get drunk on coffee.

The final segment is a trivia question that needs to be answered and a single staff judge determines its worthiness. Last night a question was "How much Japanese hair is cut in a day?"

The shows were fun and the trivia is drilled into one's head by repetition. The set is dazzling. On the down side: either the celebrities tried too hard to be clever or their quips were lost in the translation and two hosts is one too many.

This ain't J! but it is a curious oddity.

The prize, if you can call it that, is some thingy called the "Golden Brain".  The second-place factoid wins a smaller "Silver Brain."
