This means they are using what we call "90s", which means the tape itself is slightly thinner and more vulnerable to breakage (I speak from experience here).

If the tape is so easily breakable... why are they using it?  Cost??  Ease of use??

Just seems to me that it would just be easier to set up a PC driven automation system... with the eps on hard drive.  I know that some systems are in use... our local UPN station is totally automated with all shows being stored on HD.

Though... I do imagine that if they put every show in the library on HD... the storage space needed would me huge.
