Game shows with elaborate Christmas settings

Every year, game shows (and many others including the late night shows and the news) go all out for the holiday season to deck their sets up just like your house. But which ones have REALLY outdone the others?

TPIR for example has always dressed up for the holidays every year now. In fact, it's probably the only game show that I know of with their annual Christmas setting.

Match Game '90's set was well-decorated for the holdiays (Xmas shows are currently airing this week on GSN), in fact, I'd say their set is better decorated than TPIR's.

Well, we could start with Card Sharks decorating the G2T2 as Santa. '

For recent years, Wheel has a pretty nice setup every year, and Pyramid's was nifty last year, IIRC.

I'm pretty sure Wheel went all out back in the '80s, too. And I don't know if this is the first year they've done it, but they finally put those billions of colors of light to some actual use with the red and green outlined puzzle board.

Most of the others I'm thinking of I can't be 100% sure about, but still seem to ring a bell with lots of decorations . . . Combs Feud? Password Plus, maybe? It's been too long since I last saw "GSN".

Sorry about the pic quality, here are some snaps from HS in 1988, the third season.

One thing I've noticed about Price's Xmas decorations over the past few years is that what gets decorated from year to year is not consistent.

For example, this year the doors aren't decorated with garland, whereas the past 2 years have.

That's great when something doesn't work. But for some things I really like, it's too bad they are not there the next year.

My favorite so far is from Xmas 2002. Nice trees, interesting wicker reindeer, garland on the doors, plus garland in contestants row (which is rarely decorated) and a wreath around the intro light border.

Very nice except for the Hollywood Turntable...
Enjoy lots and lots of backstage TPIR photos and other fun stuff here. And yes, I did park in Syd Vinnedge's parking spot at CBS

The SYndie WOF didn't start decorating for Xmas until 1988-89. Due to bicycling practices in the 70s and early 80s, syndie game shows were much slower than network game shows in conceding to Xmas. Rafferty CS and Davidson HS in 1986 were the first.

I noticed in the "Jewish" clip from Scrabble, their set was decorated for Christmas.

Also, the HS Xmas 87 set was also elaborately decorated, with a toy train running through John's and the contestants' podiums.

"Password Plus" in '79; "Family Feud" '88 and '89; and "Joker's Wild" for '73 are a few that cross my mind.  The latter one hasn't been run since its original airing, but I remember a huge Christmas tree on the set as kids played that week.

Which sure as hell beat the sole Christmas decoration for the 1972 season: a mini-tree atop the contestant podiums. :-) Dawson FF also had Christmas decorations on the set, putting trim around the contestant backdrops and face-off podiums, among other details.

During its 2nd season, Pyramid went all out decoration-wise for the 12/24/03 ep (something the earlier versions never did), even having Donny open the show w/a rendition of "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and close it w/"Deck the Halls".

Hell, Stewart wouldn't even spring for something more than a deli plate for the lunch break--you'd think he'd want to spring for a wreath on Dick Clark's podium?

There was garland around the Winner's Circle from Xmases 1983-1987 on the CBS $25K Pyramid(though the week of Xmas 1987 was a week of reruns from the previous XMas week(

Password Plus page

There's some shots of the "Password Plus" X-mas decorations early on the page. Just don't be too shocked if it's over data transfer by the time you click...

Next one I can think of is Press Your Luck, with the big board reading MERRY across, and XMAS up and down during the opening and closing (which included the Whammy caroling).

HS '98 also had Christmas decorations during Season 4, IIRC.
