Has anyone solved a Wheel of Fortune puzzle without any help in the bonus round?
AFAIK, I've never seen it happen before.

It's happened at least twice in the current era, I do believe. Once during Christmas 1988 and once during College Week in Washington D.C.

Is WOF that harsh to give the contestant a puzzle without ANY of the default letters?

Well, if you think about pre-1988, before they had those as the default letters...

I don't recall anyone solving a bonus puzzle without a single letter showing(meaning the puzzle they picked has no RSTNLE or any of the four letters picked). I do remember ZOO being the bonus puzzle in 1992 and the contestant actually picked Z and O, sensing the puzzle might be ZOO.

Here's a brain teaser which may add to the thread: is it even POSSIBLE to come up with a puzzle on WoF that won't show the RSTLN or E?

Not a little 3 or 4 word puzzle, but something longer, like maybe two words, whether it be person, place, thing, or whatever.

If there's a Welsh version, they probably have some PLACEs that would qualify.

One contestant in the mid-1990s had no letters on the board, had PERSON as the category, and her first guess was BABY...and that was the correct answer.

"HAWAII"

One that's almost there...

"HAWAII FIVE-O"

One that is nothing but RSTLNE:

"TENNESSEE"

The only thing I can think of is

CUCKOO

This is pretty damn hard...the sad thing is, Pat's noted plenty of puzzles that didn't have RSTLN E.

I was watching a '92 episode of Wheel of Fortune where there were no default letters anywhere in the bonus puzzle and the contestant chose 3 more and 1 more vowel and none of her letters didn't appear in the puzzle either and it's only a 3 Letter bonus puzzle, so what was the category and what was the original air date for that episode?
